420 DA Thread

Ok, this prop talk has me thinking. I noticed last year that my port engine appears to burn more fuel, like 1 gph. Both engines (459’s) turn up to ~2620 rpm, although I’m a little slower than most of you guys. Now wondering if it might be worth having the props done to ensure both are the same. Thoughts?

480 CE's and the port check engine light came on today after running a bit and then just idling around the island. Any clues what reasons the light comes on for? I tried to search and cannot find anything.

Thanks!

edit: sounds like operator error, once docked I left the engine sync on and shut down stbd engine. I let port engine run a couple mins to even out the hours and that's when I noticed the light was on.

Instrumentation Illumination.....It just rolls off of the tongue. So, I was all hot to trot to change my instrument panel gauge lights to LED. Read many posts about how easy it is. Just buy a socket and the LED bulbs, viola. Well, as it turns out, my 2004 model Sea Ray has the "Next Generation" Teleflex gauges. What does that mean? It means they are sealed. The backside of them are just a black, plastic cylinder with a pigtail. I spoke with a rep at VeeThree Instruments in Florida. He was VERY helpful, but unfortunately, had to break the bad news to me.

Has anyone had the nerve to "break in to the sealed gauge"? He said that he couldn't recommend doing that, but he couldn't stop me.

Thoughts?

Hi Mjresq4 I do have BoatUS. Did you order them for the 44? If so do you have pics you can share so I can see?

Hey Villain, Did you ever find replacement 44 decal. Looking to replace my 390. I can find flat letters, not raised. Thanks

@Larry - Since Sea Ray arbitrarily changed the model designation from 420 to 440 in 2006 or 2007 you could have almost just updated the lettering to say "440 Sundancer" ... which is closer to the truth anyway given the boat is really 45'0" LOA.

I could have! But when travel I like having a 42!! My boat is actually 49’ 6” with the hydraulic platform

@Larry - good point. Whenever I travel to a place that charges by the foot such as Catalina I always quote the boat size as 42. The harbor patrol is more likely to look at the name plate than pull out a tape measure.

Funny when you have a smaller boat you want it bigger. When you have a bigger boat you want it smaller..... that would be me right now as I compound, polish and wax this thing.... right now I wish it was a 15 footer

lol we all talk about the 42 /44 transient dockage issue.

in 06 and for a few years they dropped the 0 , so it was a 44

Has anyone replaced their Salon ac unit with the Dometic Turbo 12k? I am having a hell of a time removing the existing thru the triangle. Need to hear from someone who did it and can share the tips and tricks with me. I already replaced cockpit and Stateroom so if anyone needs help therelet me know.

If you can wait till Thursday, I will send you a picture of the small cut outs the Tech made to pull the old unit out.
