460 DA Owners Thread

I simply tell people no pooping and sit down and shut up while maneuvering. It seems to work well and limits the numbers of guests we have to entertain.
I tell people before we leave the dock to use the toilet at the Marina. Using the toilet is an emergency procedure and #2 is not authorized. Problem being is that the majority of our friends are in their mid 70's (as we are) and most have prostate problems or bladder problems for the women. Perhaps I should hand out Depends as they board. I tell every one to be seated during departure and arrival. It seems to work for leaving the slip but I have to be more forceful when we return. When people come to my boat for the first time, they predictably ask, "How do you get that boat in and out of here?" They must feel the need to help me get the boat back into the slip.

People are so oblivious! Ya gotta laugh-from the keyboard at least.
When it comes to docking I too don't want people scrambling. "I got it...(Your boats horspower) works better than (helper count) man power!!"

Follow up....the Water Witch bilge switch is THE BOMB!!! I wish I had known about that years ago. It was easy to install and works great, even though I am only testing it in my building. The amount of water in the sump is practically null compared to the original float switch.

Job Rating= Less than 1 screwdriver. :)

Thanks to those who posted from my previous question and set me straight on this topic.

Hi Guys

My 2002 460 has a Cigar Lighter type 12 socket in the Galley under the various light switches.

When I remove the socket and check with a meter, there is no power in the wires connecting to the socket. Quite heavy wires, can anybody advise where they come from and how I can trace them back to find the failure.

Any assistance much appreciated

Graham

Do you have a switch at the DC panel that says 12 volt receptacle? My 2005 had one. If so, I would start by checking the switch/breaker. They fail too often.

Is that the 12 volt panel in the cockpit under the Port side shelf and next to the ice maker / drinks fridge?

I'm referring to the DC panel in the Salon. I also had a push type breaker located at the helm for the 12 volt receptacle there.

Hey Graham,
Maybe it was only a 2002 model year problem?? Just joking but I have exactly the same issue. It was one of those things that I was intending to address someday.

I have a 39" mounted in the same location. Mount is thru bolted into the head. The door clears the tv by about an inch. All wires run to the starboard side cabinets to the stereo and dvd player.

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading from a 360DA to a 460DA and haven't even seen one in the flesh. Been to several marinas lately looking for one. York River, Bluewater Hampton, Cavalier Virginia Beach, Marina Shores.... I was down at Tidewater Yacht Marina yesterday, low and behold I see a 460DA, and it has the exact name as my boat; Knot At Work (although I use the @ sign on my stern). It seems a lot bigger than my 360 but not the way a 580DB does!

The 460DA is an awesome boat.
I upgraded from a 370 to a 460 and the difference in size was real. The handling of the 460 with the diesels is a huge difference, much better balance and TONS of storage.
The only things that I'd tell you to try to get are the hardtop and hydraulic platform. Bow and stern thrusters make it a complete package.
Happy hunting!

Thanks for that, unfortunately, that 12 Volt panel is quite different to mine, I will have to have a good look around the boat and see if I can find anything with a switch or fuse that refers to the 12 Volt receptacle

I have a feeling I have seen it somewhere, not sure where though.

The 460 is an awesome boat and you will appreciate the upgrade. My one watch out is this. These boats are 20 years old and there is significant differences in a well maintained boat and one that is neglected. My strategy on helping folks buy one of these boats has changed to identifying the top tier boats and ignoring the overall pricing. I’m happy to talk on csr but shoot me a pm if you want to have a phone call in person, especially once you start looking.

I think we spoke a a while back concerning batteries!!

I'm still in the process on determining which model suits me and the Admiral the best, 42-50ish. I've read about the moisture issues on the 460s and the issues with the 480CE dropped valve (due to Sea Ray liking to overprop.)
Just beginning the process, can't start eliminating or approving boat models at least until after getting onboard one.

Same problem - different cause. Had a water leak which I assumed was upstream of the water pumps. When the water pumps were turned on, it emptied the fresh water tank in a very short time and a lot of that water ended up in the bilge area forward of the steps in the cabin. My mechanic said he found a crack in the water accumulator and changed it out. Same problem. When the water pumps are turned on, it empties the tank and the water ends up in the same place. Could it be a water line or perhaps a water pump or fitting?

Can you give me some information on where you have seen or heard about the 480CE dropped valve issue? I am splashing today after dropping a valve back in July last year.

Lots of info on dropping valves on the 480CE's. It all comes down to overpropping from what i have read. SBMar and Boatdiesel are great resources on this topic. Searay did a poor job of propping a few of their models with this engine including the 390MY, 420/44DB are the ones i'm aware of. Heres an article on it: http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/calling-all-480ce-owners.69140/

We looked at many 450 CTA and 480CE 's when we were shopping and pretty much everyone had similar discoloration of the turbos and the inlet air side of the aftercooler. Not sure reliable of an indicator that is.
