460 DA Owners Thread

A couple of day ago I had a problem with the sofa in the aft stateroom. It pulled away from the wall when I activated the switch but the back would not go down. My mechanic was on the boat today and checked it out. We determined, after checking all the connections, that the motor to the back had burned out. Called SeaRay who in turn gave me the name and vendor of the supplier of the sofa. I called them in Indiana and they had the motor in stock and it is being shipped to me in the morning. Motor is cheap enough. Wondering how many hours it will take to move the sofa and then put in back in place. I can't imagine the new motor itself being a big job. Anyone else have a motor go bad on them?

On a reoccurring issue, it seems that my fresh water tank is giving up its contents and we have no idea where its going. No water leaks found around the tank. We checked the anchor locker for the fresh water wash down as well as the fresh water wash down by the swim platform. SeaRay says it might be the Pop Off Valve on the water heater, or the Check Valve on the swim platform fresh water wash down. My mechanic says he has checked both of those areas. Anyone have any ideas?

Can you hear the pumps running? The water lines run where you are seeing the water. Could be a leak there but should be obvious. I had the over pressure valve fail on the water heater that caused the tank to empty quickly, but on the 2005 it dumped into the bilge behind the aft cabin sofa.

I assume you are referring to the water pumps? Had a leak in the water accumulator but changed that. No obvious water leaks around the system. I will have to check out the over pressure valve on the water heater. I did find some water in the bilge behind the aft cabin sofa. Thanks.

Sailor Jerry

Here’s the trick. Prop your electronic c’s just like the mechanical 6CTA. It is the same engine and is overpropped from Searay 100% of the time. If you need help understanding the how just speak up and we will walk you through it.

hi there bought a 2000 460 last april and still looking for things
i am looking for the fill for window washer and how to turn it on thanks al

There is no washer bottle to fill, when you hit the switch it activates a valve on the fresh water line to provide water from your water system, you would need to have your fresh water pumps on for it to work. If you still get no water, the valve should be under the floor by the shower/sink sump system.

Same here...turned out to be the hot water heater high pressure relief valve. I couldn't figure out where the water behind the sofa was coming from all summer...drove me crazy!

Once I pulled it for winter storage and I was working on the exterior, I would hear the pump cycle for a few seconds AND water would come out the main line drain. As well, water was showing up in the bilge behind the sofa. I was totally baffled...until I removed the cover to access the hot water heater...and voila a crusted, leaking high pressure valve.

I found gallons of water in the trough just below the heater which could only be accessed from the small, salon floor storage compartment in front/below the fridge. Look down in there and you will see about a 3" hole...I got several extension pieces for my shop vac and slid them back into that hole and started sucking water out..a LOT of water!

New pressure relief valve installed and the problem was solved...no more water in aft bilge. Hopefully that helps!!

Today we began the electronics upgrade for Sea-Nile. All the Raymarine stuff was removed along with their dash panels. The installers carpenter took measurements for new panels. Tomorrow the job begins to remove the internal guts of the outdated equipment. Very excited to see my beautiful boat brought into the digital age.

Please tell us you took before pics?

Thanks a gazillion for the information. Sounds exactly like my problem which left both myself and my mechanic scratching our heads. I called SeaRay Tech Support and said the probable issue is either the pressure relief valve on the hot water heater or the fresh water wash down on the stern. It wasn't the stern. I am waiting on a new motor for the sofa back in the aft stateroom. As soon as that arrives, my mechanic is going to fix the sofa and will tackle the hot water heater. Very exciting that the problem has been isolated.

Indeed. Stay tuned.
Got a bunch of before pictures. Just got to figure out how to get them posted. Never enough time these days to do it all.

Regarding the sofa motor...I have been wondering if it was possibly the sofa motor controller?? I had that problem with mine and before buying anything, I played with the wires and reversed the connections so that the down switch was now the out switch (if you get my meaning). Turns out the motor was fine, it was the controller....just a thought.

I also had a bad controller on the rear couch. I ended up removing the whole sofa and putting in a mattress. I'm pretty sure I still have the motor if you end up needing one.

Do boat owners become pack rats ... or do pack rats become boaters?
I have many "I'm gonna need this one day" parts laying around

Thank you so much for the offer. However, as soon as we determined the motor was bad, I got the phone number of the vendor provided by SeaRay Tech Support and I ordered it. It came this afternoon.

We tried everything both I and the mechanic could think of. Definitely the motor. Stay tuned. I'll do a followup as soon as I can get him back to the boat to install it.

This is what my panel looked like before the project began.
