Go with the whole new kit… well worth the investment to know they are breathing correctly. That way you have a baseline moving forward.

What’s the difference between the blue & red oil for the air filters? I have used both oil kits

Hey Guys, has anyone else found it hard to follow posts and reply to an older one? The posts seem to get out of order and hard to search back. Seems like some really great and knowledgeable people on here, but this message board was great in its day but seems a little antiquated now. Being an IT guy, I took it upon myself to create a Facebook group called Sea Ray 48 Sundancer Owners. It's a private group and I'm the only member at the moment, but I'm thinking over time it could be useful, as you can reply and search from your smartphone. May come in handy in a pinch. Let's say you're on a trip, something goes wrong, you can instant message other 48 Owners, get instant responses. Please check it out and join. If anyone wants to help admin the group, please let me know. I think it will be much easier to communicate with each other. Happy Holidays!

Thats really half the truth. Your are going to roast with the AC on anyway if you don't block the Sun from coming in. The 2 ton AC unit is not enough to overcome the Sun. The real issue is not the AC, it's the Sun coming in. And the real culprit is the the 2 sunroofs. If you can black out the sunroofs with the darkest Ceramic window tint there is and also put a ceramic tint on the side and windshield, it makes a world of difference, Then the AC has a chance. Also, using the drop curtain versus the canvas back when the AC is on makes a huge difference also. The drop curtain drastically reduces the volume of air that the AC has to deal with.

Now somewhere back in the Anals of this website is a project that I undertook that you guys will says WHAT?
I moved the 2 ton AC unit to underneath the left bed below the helm. I then built two booster fan boxes that sucked air out of the helm area and sent it to the "BED Plenum" and then thru the AC unit and then the other booster fan sucked it out of the "Bed Plenum" and sent it back to the cockpit. I could keep the helm at 65 degrees all day on a 100 degree day and there was no noise from the AC Unit. I loved that Boat.

Also, a real problem with the factory AC helm unit is not that is does not have enough cooling capacity, the problem is that the location where it is mounted does not allow an adequate quantity of air to pass thru the coils. The air that does pass thru the coil short cycles too. Very little air makes its way to behind the helm and the majority of the air that comes out the vent in the side of the center console just heads back to the return vent (short Cycles). This is what made me eventually move the unit.

I had some opaque covers custom made from canvas that fit very snugly over the roof vents. That made a nice difference. Also having all the glass tinted helped out a lot. Don't let that dissuade you. 48 is a helluva boat.

The finest hull Sea Ray ever built, and I have had 7 of them.
Great Lakes Boater and my cockpit air keeps me very comfortable. Southern US, a lot warmer in summer. I think tinted front windows would help lots, also covers for overhead vents. If you can keep back canvas up that really helps.

I'd have to argue you with you on the finest hull Sea Ray ever built. 55 Sundancer to me is the greatest boat they ever made period. I loved my 48. But the 55 is hard to describe. I think the most amazing thing is the bow rise when getting on plane. Virtually none. It just rises vertically out of the water and you aren't looking thru the front railing ever. Like I say, the 48 is an amazing boat. The just took the best parts of the 48, stretched it 10 feet longer and 2 feet wider and Bam, you have a 55. LOL. Okay guys, lay it on me. Tear me a new one.

Installed extension on helm seat, eliminates view problem.
Never piloted a 55. 48’ is more than enough for wife and I.
My marina can barely handle my 48. Now factor in the extra $ and you got a 480
