48 DA Owners Club

@T-N-T
What was your process please?
I definitely want to do this

I used 3M 60 Micron (dry), then a 30 Micron (dry), and finished up with a Maroon Trizac pad (wet) on my 5” random orbital palm sander to get the matte finish. Would use the Blue Trizac next to get semi-gloss , then White Trizac to get real high gloss.

I bought the pads and saw great videos here: https://www.buildasurface.com/diy-kb

We just got back from a 13 day trip, and our final leg yesterday was 64 miles with 1-2' waves off the starboard bow at around 80% load, 2325 RPM's, and running about 28.5 mph(GPS) burning 43.5 gph.

That is just about exactly what my boat does. Just had the props redone and I believe i had them done to your specs i found in an earlier thread. How do you run? Tabs down 75% ish?

I had them all the way down yesterday as we were running into the waves, and that seemed to be the most comfortable and efficient for the conditions. However, even with following seas I usually run with at least 50% tab.

Thanks, good to know. Seems to be how I run mine as well. Never find myself running less than about 50% as there is not much difference in fuel savings and don't like running with bow that far up.
Now I just reminded myself to do that helm seat riser project.

Helm seat riser's worked really well for me. I also added 3" extensions on my tabs, and 3" drop fins which help tremendously.

Wow, I did that on my 340. What was the noticeable difference with these? I can fabricate those in my shop pretty quickly. I am presuming you are using Stainless?

I believe I can trim the bow at least 12" more, and yes...stainless. I just had them welded onto the existing tabs.

I have a friend that needs to replace the cutlass bearings on his '06 48DA, and he'd like to know the size prior to hauling out. Anyone know the size, so he can have them on hand?

Faucet 2.jpg Faucet 1.jpg Got sick of not being able to wash my hands in the cockpit sink with out getting water all over the counter. Picked up this 10" swing faucet at webstaurantstore.com. It reaches the center of the sink and does not block the TV, also will swing past the edge of the counter to to fill a bucket or pot.

I was finally able to track down the cutlass bearing size for our 48DA's. They are Morse Herring 2.00" x 2.62" x 8.00" Also, in doing so I ended up having to speak with Algonac Marine Cast who manufactured our struts (P/N 25588), and will still cast them today if needed.

Looks good. Next project.

TNT,
Thanks for the pictures and the website! I need to make this revision soon too. Problem is there are 20 different 10' swing nozzles from $12 to $130! Did you pick yours because of compatibility to the existing faucet or was it a quality thing? Thanks.
Andy

I ordered mine but going to be awhile… can’t wait to have that installed.

Do you know where we can buy the runners that cover the carpets in the salon on an 07 48?
Funny you say that because just getting back from the Bahamas one thing I want to redo and make fit better is the runners. I hate that they don’t cover better to the edges. Way too much gap and that’s what trashes the carpet. I am going to have my upholstery guy make me some new ones and I am going to move the mounts to get better coverage to protect the carpet in the high traffic areas

Has anyone replaced gas struts that hold up rear compartment door ? If so please share info. Thanks
