48 DA Owners Club

Jeffery,

Thanks for the insite again. Yes I am figuring I will have to replace one of the 2 aftercoolers as the odds of them both still good are 50/50. Heat exchangers I am figuring they will clean up fine for their age. Sanitation hoses he checked and swipped them and said they were not smelly so no issue there...yet. Keep in mind they never used the heads on this thing the past 3 years.

What do you know about the turbos, the surveyor mentioned that something was leaking on them but did not elaborate and said it will all be in the report. I would think they should be rebuildable??? Possible seal???[/QUOTE
@ocgrant I would pull the wet side of the exhaust and look for visible signs of corrosion in the turbo. The way the exhaust elbow/riser bends upward allows water to reside in the elbow or flow back into the turbo. If you haven't visited the seaboard marine site, I would highly recommend it. It's a wealth of knowledge. If you're pulling the aftercoolers, you might as well pull the exhaust side of the turbo for inspection. Also, if something is "leaking" did he specifically call out the turbo or is it the exhaust flange? If you're pulling the exhaust side, I'd check the exhaust flange for possible crack or a need for a new exhaust gasket. I've included a picture of the exhaust elbow. You can see how the seawater can flow back into the turbo vs out the exhaust. Keep in mind, I'm no expert, I've learned this all via tribal knowledge. I went to the local Cummins dealer awhile back and asked them about doing the aftercooler work and the guys there looked very confused when I said "aftercooler". I figured I'd have a better chance of figuring this out myself than letting them work on my boat. I've had a great time working on this thing and it gives me something to do.Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'd be glad to help.

What is the water heater in the 48? This one will need one as it was identified on the survey it is not working. I wanted to look it up to source a new one.

Yes, that's the exact model. I removed mine when I did my sanitation hoses. You might want to remove the bow thruster batteries so it's easier to get to. I connected a water hose to it and drained it into the bilge and let the bilge pumps remove the water. Here's a couple of pictures of it.

I don’t have a 48, but my water heater wasn’t working either, I opened up that front box, and there was a reset switch buried in the insulation that had tripped. Once I reset that, it started working again. Worth a shot.

These are the ones I used from Amazon. And yes, they went into the reading lights as well. The light that is produced is the same intensity and color as the factory bulbs. You can't even tell. If you want the bright white look I would use something else. I like the warm color of these for the interior.

These are the ones I used for the engine compartment. They are white light.

And these are the ones that went into the showers.

Looking to do the LED upgrade this winter. Now that you have had these lights for a while any additional feedback or issues?

Has anyone upgraded the cockpit lights to new LED bulbs? Any suggestions

Hello All, for those of you like me that feel shorted that they do not have teak decks on their 48 DA's, I have some boat porn for you. Infiniti Luxury woven vinyl. Replaced all the cockpit carpeting, looks amazing, all the benefits and look of teak, none of the upkeep headaches. Feels like walking on a cushioned matt, and can be hosed off and washed with the rest of the boat. Enjoy!

Does anyone know if this infinity luxury woven vinyl gets hot in the sun? It looks great and am currently looking for another product but want something we can walk on barefoot. Thanks

It will be hotter than white gelcoat - too hot? who knows, depends on where you are, what color you choose, and how sensitive your feet are - in south florida anything other than the factory non skid white was too hot for us with bare feet

Yes it does. Just had a new carpet made this summer and in Bahamas sun it will burn your feet. Back to teak....

Well the deal is done and I sign the papers next week and take ownership of a 2006 48 Sundancer. Super excited and timing is perfect to give me 30 days to get her all maintained and upgraded for spring and summer Bahamas trips.

Any creative ways to shade the back table area? I hate full enclosures and poles on this boat so I want to come up with a nice looking solution to hang off of the top without destroying the beautiful lines of this yacht. Anyone see a SureShade system yet on a boat? Pretty cool set up.

Congratulations. I saw a 48DA for sale in Knoxville area a while back that had a SureShade awning that was mounted on the hard top. It was functional, but looked like crap. After owning ours for a few years, I'm not sure how'd you go about mounting one under the hard top without having some custom work done.

I had this custom made, two Sunfly Poles adjustable with Stamoid white awning. There is a second zipper sewn to the existing Curtain. Total set up is about $2500 with the installation of the Rod holders.

I Never ran with the sunshade up. Its takes 2 minutes to install.

I have a similar set up for a sun-shade. Real easy to put up and take down, it zips across the same way as the aft canvas does and uses two poles with adjustment straps. It works great cooling off the aft seating, I don't recommend running with it up you will defiantly cause damage. Sorry the pic is not better, it's the only one I have of the shade up and it's from the original pic of when I purchased it back in 2015

Wow that looks awesome. I like the dark canvas.
