48 DA Owners Club

Thank you for all the replies! We have her safe and secure in our slip now, and will get busy cleaning all the road grime off tomorrow morning. Can any of you owners give me tip on how to prime the A/C pumps?

I close the seacock, remove the top from the strainer and put a garden hose with water flowing with my hands somewhat sealing into the strainer. Then, after some time when water has filled the system and flowing out of the AC system discharge ports remove the hose reinstall the strainer cover and open the seacock; the system should be primed and ready to operate.

Does the 48DA have common drains or individual thru hulls for the A/C cooling water discharge? If you've got the individual thru hulls, try putting a hose against them and back flowing water in the lines. Some say just going out for a short ride will prime the pump. I have turned the pump on and loosened the screws around the pump housing until water comes out, then re-tighten them...

The 48DA has a common drain. There are 2 pumps. 1 pump for the salon, aft cabin, and master AC units and another for the cockpit. I cleaned out the strainers, and everything started working but now the salon AC keeps losing it's prime. I tried loosening one of the lines on the one pump, but couldn't get it off. It's under the battery tray and there's just no room to maneuver. I'm wondering if I just need to give it some time after a long road trip, and be patient?

Great looking boat, I have one just like it! You will love it We came out of similar size boats, I can tell you the 48 is hands down the best boat I have ever owned. I am certain I will never be going back to gas engines after getting used to desiels.

Thank you, and we're very much looking forward to next year already! We did get the AC issue resolved by just being patient, and letting the air work it's way out of the system. Boat comes out of the water on Wednesday, and sometime in the next couple of months we'll get started on the upgrades!

Oh man I do not see how you could get a new boat then put it up on the hard the next week. That would kill me. I will be boating at least to December. After taking delivery of my boat the middle of August I have just about gottten all of my personal touch projects completed.

It's definitely tough, but we don't have much of a choice up here. Once the weather starts to change, the lake Michigan really starts to get rough, and the marina starts pulling boats. It takes about 6 weeks to get them all put away in the buildings at our marina. I had a number of people inquire about our previous boat (410DA) over the years, so I finally listed it and had 2 offers in about a week. I put an offer on our 48DA 1 hour after it was listed.

Purchased a 2005 48 this week. Looking forward to it but have one question. What’s the Elect switch on dash do? It wasn’t there on my 420just the label. I thought I found it on here prior but no luck searching.

Mine is for the backup camera on the back hardtop which was on the boat when I purchased it. It looks to be an accessory switch.

One thing I do not like are the dinghy chocks. Anyone swap them out for something that retracts or are removable?

Just sold closed on the sale of my 44DA today!!!! :) Time to start the search. 48 is near the top of my list. Any input on what to look for would be appreciated. Particularly pods vs v-drive and thrusters. My boat handling skills are a non-issue so I'm not worried about tight quarters.

Congratulations on the sale of your 44 now you are freed up to shop with cash in hand and no trade. As far as pods vs v-drives everyone will have their own opinion. There is no doubt that pods are super cool to have but after many hours of research prior to our purchase I decided to go with straight shafts. My concerns were: first off reliability issues and secondly service ability in my major boating area. When traveling which we do, if there is a problem with shaft drives most marinas can service/repair those issues.

Now that we have had our boat for two full seasons I am really pleased with straight shafts and never regretted the decision. Like you mentioned handling a boat in tight quarters did not intimidate you and I felt the same way with many years of experience of boat handling.

Hello, on my 2006 48 DA the Elect switch gives power to the Sea Ray Navigator system located on the starboard side of the dash console, it does not send power to the Raymarine E120 on the port side of the dash, one time I accidentally shut the Elect switch off in haste not realizing the Sea Ray Navigator was on, so the next time I turned it on it gave me a nasty warning message. I imagine the Elect switch could be used to power any accessory on the boat, just depends who installed the elctronics on your boat at the dealer or factory on that particular day.

Since we on the topic of switches. Anyone know what the Cruise1/Cruise2 switch does???

So we finally have our own thread... it will take some participation to move it along and keep it interesting. Where are all of you 48DA's out there?

Hello All, for those of you like me that feel shorted that they do not have teak decks on their 48 DA's, I have some boat porn for you. Infiniti Luxury woven vinyl. Replaced all the cockpit carpeting, looks amazing, all the benefits and look of teak, none of the upkeep headaches. Feels like walking on a cushioned matt, and can be hosed off and washed with the rest of the boat. Enjoy!
