48 DA Owners Club

I sourced mine (direct OEM replacement) from kitchensource.com - they were the only ‘hafele’ distributor around for the exact oem part. Let me know if you need more info.

Sooliman,
would you mind sharing the part number or link? i'd like to replace mine.
Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can get Sea Ray part #738716 from? It’s the 4.5x10 plastic vent cover in the cockpit.
I ordered mine last year direct from local Sea Ray dealer. I don’t recall the price but it wasn’t bad and came quickly. The yellowed plastic and broken vent ribs are as much a signature on the 48 as the dinged fridge door is...lol

I noticed a small fuel leak on my starboard side, pads indicate the forward part of the engine. I didn’t have time dive in before I left. Can anyone guide me to the fuel pump/lines for the next time I go take a look? I want to peek before I call my diesel mechanic.

I would start at the fuel cooler and work my way back to the tank. Should be easy to identify

Trouble shooting my bow thruster since it decided it didn’t want to work anymore as I was pulling out of a slip.
I did a little triage and found no blown fuses, but it only clicks like a weak starter in a car. So, I’m assuming low voltage first - before I start pulling the motor and checking / changing shear pins.
1) Batteries are dated as four years old - I’m changing them, that my first line of defense to ensure I have good voltage. 2) Those who have changed the thruster battery charger, what did you replace with? Figure it may be time.

Any other thoughts / ideas I should look for?

I replaced my original thruster charger 4 yrs ago with a ProNautic #2420P. It’s worked perfectly with no issues and the batteries are now on their 4th year as well.

You are onto it... Mine did the same thing 2 weeks ago, just buzzes when you his the switch. Popped a voltmeter on them and they showed 23 volts and hit the switch and dropped to 8 volts.... Ran to West marine and grabbed 2 batteries and I was back in business.

Ok, so changed the batteries - but must have tripped something or blew a fuse. I now have no power at the dash to energize the thruster. Where are the fuses I should look for? Thanks!

I have been making the efforts to make my bilge completely dry.
I had a couple of weeping thru-hulls above the waterline which have been re-bedded.
While underway, i get some water in both bilges in the engine room.

My first mission was to determine salt water or fresh water.
While some of my friends suggested tasting it, i ordered one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002566DS

which told me it was fresh water. Happy about that... Progress.

Now, does anyone have a process/suggestion for tracking down a leak in the freshwater system? It isn't large by any stretch, but noticeable nonetheless.

Thanks!
Shaps

Did you check the 200 amp (?) fusible link? On my 420, it is on the engine room bulkhead.

Just because it's fresh water (which I'd agree is the best news ever), don't rule out that it could be rain water runoff, water from washing the boat, etc....It's not necessarily a leaky fresh water hose (or drain). If you leave the fresh water pump on for an extended period of time while in the 'basement' - and all your faucets, showers, etc are closed - does the pump prime at all? Period of time can be measured in one or two adult beverages - or however long enough would be to accumulate water. If the pump isn't priming, you probably don't have a leak from the pressurized system, which again would be good news. Then it's tracing the leak back to somewhere else. I know on most 48's - if you wash above the dash and water pools to the starboard side, it will eventually weep to the bilge - but may first go to the midship bilge.
Finally, your shower sump, if original, never drains all the water (unless you've installed a water witch) - and sometimes will leak into the midship bilge - but won't make it back to the engine room bilge. You will find it...

Thanks - I'll have to take a closer look at that one, and grab a spare anyway. Can't hurt to try. I was super careful changing everything, so I'm not sure how I could've shorted it, but I'll check.

thanks @Sooliman
Will check if the pump re-primes... good start! appreciated!

I found my fresh water coming from plugged rod holder drains. There is a second hole that drains right into the bilge. Stuck a hose in them and blew out the crap to clear the drains and I have no more rain water in my bilge.
