480 DB Owners Club

Anybody know the model # or description of the sea star hydraulic system that's in a 2003/4 480DB? (Don't have any manuals w/ this boat, gathering them one by one, sorry for all the questions).

I just replaced the sending units this winter. You have to unscrew the L brackets that hold the sofa to the floor and pull it out. There is a 6” white round access plate in the floor (back towards A/C unit) that is somewhat located over top of the PORT sender.

The STBD sender access plate is in the bottom of the cabinet where the Glomex control is located. Remove the wood access panel in the bottom shelf and you’ll see the white round access plate. This one is lined up better.

There is no way to do this from the engine room. Even with access from above it’s not an easy task.

morning, new to posting but what I have read in very interesting definitely shows how passionate you all are about the 48'. need help in replacing fuel senders in my 48' anyone with tips or is this a job for boat yard? not much room above the engines is there cut out in the cabin?

There are cutouts behind the couch and in the base of the cabinets on the starboard side...odd they are both out at the same time.

I'm putting in new WEMA Fuel senders in a 2004 this weekend since I have the floors out anyway, I can snap some pics from top and bottom if that helps, but the info above is correct, they have to come out through the access holes. The WEMA units cost a little more, but I think they use magnets and not a mechanical arm w/ the resistors built in --- that's what usually fails

Quality Time, or anyone else w/ QSM11s of 2003/4 vintage, which version of Smartcraft System View do we have (I'm not at the boat) as in what SIM revision? I'm trying to figure out if there is an upgrade path to Vessel view 4 or 7 without upgrading the SIM? Thanks

Sorry, I can't help with that off the top of my head. I'd be interested to know what you find out though so please report back.

I've been on the phone w/ the diesel support side of vessel view (looking at the 703, 4 is not an option w/ what we have) about upgrading from the original smart craft/diesel view that came w/ the boat. Sounds do-able w/ a few twists. I'll report back. So far it doesn't appear that the new vessel view, nor the C127 raymarine monitor will pick up my EGT info on NMEA PGN 130316 from the maretron TMP100, so I guess that will be another gauge......

I know this is a long shot, but by any chance does anyone with QSM11s have photo(s) of the wiring on the back of the Stop/Run/Start rocker switches and Emergency Start rocker switch on the bridge? When the boat was being transported while out of the U.S. one of the Stop/Run/Start rocker switches broke and they replaced both of them with some type of toggle switches they mounted above the original rockers where the blanks are. I have the S/R schematics and diagrams on the new OEM Carlings I purchased to work it out, but a go-by picture sure would give me a lot more confidence I have it correct. Thanks.

thanks for the help Quality Time will hit ports side this weekend

Yes, I'm now at 28 x 31" with #2 cup. I just had them brought down from #5 cup this winter and will see if that was a good or bad move next week. I'd say most agree that you should start by removing an inch from the factory 32" pitch and may need to go further. Some guys are running 29.5" while others are at 30" and 31". Every boat is different and depends on how much stuff you are carrying and dingy etc...

The method that some of us prescribe to is that you should burn 18 GPH @ 2000 RPM to keep the heat down on the dry manifold/turbo set up. Last season I was at 19-20 GPH @ 1950 RPM with an EGT of 925-950.

I’m new to the forum and would like some info on the correct propping of my QSM 11s
Cheers Steve
What QT said is correct, every boat is different. I took the pitch in mine down to 29. Just was able to get it out an on the plane after a long stay in the boatyard. Fresh Bottom, Full fuel and water (Salon interior still out though) and it jumped out of the hole and hit 35mph w/ a little throttle left. We're just checking to see if the turbos would spool up, real test run later this week. Getting the new gauges/displays hooked up now so I can see EGT, fuel burn, etc, but am expecting to have significantly taken the lug off the engines and cool the exhaust down.

Also, still looking for a picture of the backside wiring on the Stop/Run/Start switches for each engine and Emergency Start switch for a 480DB w/ QSM11s if anybody feels particularly sympathetic.

Sorry, I meant to take a pic this past weekend but was scrambling to get ready for launch this week. I'll be down a few times this week and will try to remember.

Thanks so much, that would be awesome, should just be 4 corner screws and lift up slightly enough to get an angle of the wires connected to the lower left 3 rocker switches. Thanks!!!!!

Confused. Looking for some help... boat splashed in yesterday. Went down to fire up engines, gennie, etc. Engines will crank and crank, but not start. Both Port and Starboard. I did not winter work other than zinc changes. Boat ran great at end of season and right up to winterizing. Very odd. Turn keys on in salon and toggle down both ignition switches. Screens power up and show System OK. Then crank and crank, but no start. Seems like not getting fuel, but I didn't change any filters to allow air in and both of them doing it??? Any help would be appreciated. Dave
