480 DB Owners Club

I have two 8D batteries wired in series for the 24V bow thruster. Everyone I talk to at my marina is shocked that there is so much battery power just for a bow thruster that is used maybe two minutes a day at most. Do all 480DBs have two 8D's for the bow thruster? If not, what do you have? Mike

THats what I have and it works, so I'm not going to change anything.

I have the OEM setup; two Group 31’s wired for 24volts.

Works well. Have not needed additional amp hours to date while running the thruster.

Hey, anybody know where to get the cover for the dual 8D cranking/house batteries, or the manufacturer? It was missing so I'm not sure what it looks like and the sea ray part number isn't doing any good so far. It's a 2004 480DB. Thanks

BTW if anyone has to replace the 13.5k MDKN Onan Gen in a 2003-4 vintage, I can save you a ton of grief w/ respect to the plugs that are on the boat side (there are two), and what will come on the new "drop in replacement gen" ---- Not! (It only has one plug)

Isn't one of the plugs for the Network Interface Module (NIM)? Did you pull the NIM out of the old gen and install it into the new or order the new with the NIM and harnesses? This is the device that provides generator data onto the Smartcraft Network and to the Diesel View.

I don't think so, on 04 it still had the old style Onan gauges under the stairs. I wish you were correct, I'll double check the old generator in the morning but I don't think thru 04 they included the NIM on the gen. If it's on there and functional I'll owe you a cold one. I'm actually looking into getting either the SmartCraft NIM or J1939 NIM that you mention and adding it. Have to figure out the easiest way/place to inject it into the existing wiring so one of the converters can pick it up and put the data on the NMEA2000 backbone. I think the best addition so far has been the Maretron IPG100 and smartcraft to NMEA2000 device. Those IPG100 have gone up in price though.
Also, its looking like the WEMA fuel sending units are going to have been a good choice.
Somebody post a pic of the cranking battery box and cover when you get a chance and any kind of part number you see. Thanks!

I have been thinking a lot this summer of moving up to a 480 sedan. The hard part for me is giving up the transom lounge area we have in the Sundancer. I know you have the bridge. There is a lot of swimming during the day and the transom area is better suited for us. If we make the move, I can see myself glassing up a seating area across the transom up the starboard side and across the non slider. Has anyone seen or done anything like that. This is just something kicking in my head. I have never even measured it.

We use our boat all the time for swimming. I have taken the back bench out and have chairs instead. They are more comfortable than any bench seating. I have also left the bench in place and used two chairs in front of the door.

Hi RT,
I saw the above comments about the seating. One additional thing that might limit you is the engine room access hatch in the cockpit. It is the only way down there unless you dismantle the salon floor and move cabinets. It may limit the size of your planned seating. As far as I know, there are no "hatches" in the salon like in my 400DB.
On my 400 I use chairs in the cockpit and I had a table base made for the salon table so I can move it into the cockpit. Works well.

Thank you for the responses. I guess I could have mentioned that in the evening we typically have 8 to 10 adults drinking. (I mean sipping whine). How many can you comfortable seat on the bridge? Please.

I will have 5 people in forward seating and two at the helm chairs. Then usually someone will stand between the forward seating Nd the helm.

2004 480DB Anybody ever upgraded the Master Head Bathroom Sink or accessed the connections? How in the world do you get to them? The 2 lines to the faucet go through a hole in the Stern wall of the cabinet under the sink and are tight. I don't want to pull on them without knowing how they are attached to the water system. I see no access panels so far. Anyone? Thanks
