5.0 efi w/ alpha 1 gen 2 drives
I have a 98 290 sundancer with twin 5.0 efi on alpha 1 gen 2 drives. Been having problems with the one motor not being able to get it over 3000 rpm. Mechanic is stumped and said i should just swap it out and go old school carbs. Was told it would take manifolds, distribitors, carbs and a msd box. All in $3000 parts and labor for both motors Any thoughts pros and cons. Please help

No offense but new mechanic time. Just my 0.02

I agree. This is a friend who builds race cars and pretty good at it. Not a marine mechanic. Got a merc master tech coming sunday morning to look at it. He thinks its a timing issue

So i took your advise. Fired my mechanic and got a merc guy in and he fixed it in an hour. Ended up being distributar was set 3 teeth back when he re installed it. Wires were all out of firing order and timing was wacked out. Thanks
