Need help. Need to replace the starboard starter on my 2003, 320 DA with 5.7 Mercruiser Engines and V drives:
Are the port and starboard engine starters the same part number. Do they both turn the same direction? A part number would be great if anyone has it. I have been getting conflicting answers from the local mechanics.
Thanks

With the aid of your engine numbers you can google this info up for yourself at mercruiserparts.com

If they are both left hand engines, Yes. If one it counter rotation, then No

Should both be the same. Pretty sure Mercruiser only made standard rotation motors for installation in new boats from the late 80’s on. Counter rotation is accomplished in your transmission.

thats not true counter rotating motors were used well into the 90s so the starters are most definitely counter rotating

Mercruiser? Really? Never knew that.
Had a 1987 Sea Ray with twin 5.7 standard rotation motors. Neighbor had 88 34 Sea Ray with twin big blocks that were both standard rotation. Good friend had 1988 32 Carver with twin big blocks that were both standard rotation.
All 3 boats had Mercruisers.

Gotta love it when people with no idea of the answer to the question answer it anyway - both motors are the same, thus the starter motors are too - one trans runs in reverse
