58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

Does anybody have an issue with water not draining around the engine room hatch? On our boat the the drains are located beneath the auxiliary hatch which is bolted in place semi permanently and the water needs to run around the permanent hatch and the gutter.

I disconnect the lines and use my wet vac tapered nozzle to suck any junk out of them. That helps mine drain fine.

Carter, if you are on your boat, can you measure the length of the bunks? The OP made comment that they are longer (kids growing up) and I am in the same situation now. I want to see if the difference is really that much. Mike

Thanks Carter, I'll give that a try. Mine backs up and leaves all the dirt/residue in the channels.

My dockmate pulled the pins on the aft cockpit seat, moved it, and unscrewed the fixed piece and cleaned his drains. By vacuuming in both directions, I think I accomplished the same thing with less efforts.

Thanks everybody for all these awesome posts. I have already learned a ton about this model boat just from reading this, as well as the links with downloadable manuals. I currently putt around in a Fountain 38 SFC with Trip Verados, but the wife want some more comfort, and I think the 58 Sedan Bridge will fit the bill perfectly for us. I see some of these with a downstairs, outside rear bench that is kinda molded in, and some that are mounted on. Is the space/lockers behind the mounted on version livewells? If so, that will be our model. And Carter, I have a strong feeling we work for the same company, doing the same job.

Won’t be on the boat till late April/early May, but I may have the measurements on file let me look

In the later 08 model years and later they enlarged the cockpits and built in the aft bench seats. On the earlier years, 08 and older, there would either be a davit for a tender or storage lockers aft of the seating. The extra room in the cockpit is very nice imo and with the hydraulic swim platform there is plenty of room aft of the transom.

Somewhere I read that those lockers are plumed as livewells, is this the case?

Not on any I have seen.

the davit was removed after the’05 55DB. While it was identical to the 58DBs that started in 06, they all came with GHS Lifts.

as Charlesoceanone says the da it compartments were removed in ‘08, enlarging the cockpit and adding an electric grill/freezer in the cockpit. We like the extra storage from the empty Davitt containers.

What’s everyone’s opinion on retrofitting a 2006 to add the electric grill/freezer that I see on a lot of 2010 models. Is there enough room? Did sea ray make that set up in house or was it aftermarket and still available. Thanks for any feedback.

My dockmate in Cape Coral had the next to the last 2013 made and it had the revised cockpit with the grill. I asked @Capt. Rusty Higgins if the molds were still available as some people have had success getting fiberglass replacement parts directly from Sea Ray. The answer was - "sorry, it is not".

Bob - I think it would be too tight. We mounted a $100 stainless steel grill from HD on a pole mount in a rod holder by the transom door.. I had a fab shop in Ft. Myers make a stainless tray with 1/4" lips and that solved mounting and dripping problems. I prefer our cockpits with the empty davit lockers for it's great storage - but if I had a post '07 with out it, I wouldn't complain! You will love this boat.

Can you post a picture of your grill setup. Thanks

I will Robert - I'm in Florida and the boat got stuck in TN for the winter, but I'll search my files and see if I have one already.

We put two deck chairs by the sliding door facing aft and have a teak table in the cockpit, so we would have no room for the built in grill - as nice as it looks and is!

I’m with @carterchapman - I don’t think you’ll have room for a useable cockpit area with that setup. The teak table and chairs we have are just comfortable enough to move around when people are seated at the table. I don’t think you’d even have room for a table and/or chairs if you took up that corner with the new style entertainment station.

Hello to all... New to the forum. My (new to me) 2006 Sea Ray 58 DB leans slightly to stern while at dock. Is this normal? I am assuming once we load the dinghy on to the swim platform it will lean even further to stern?

AJ,

Welcome Sir! These boats do have a stern heavy appearance esp. when full of fuel - for instance, put a marble on your galley countertop - that baby heads aft. Is your boot stripe aligned evenly? If so, you are normal. With full fuel, my exhausts and half of the common drain exits are submerged. When I am light on fuel, my stern is almost 4" higher - we hold over 4,500# of fuel...

And we have guys on here that will tell you: "It didn't happen without pictures", so show us some pictures of your new boat!
