58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

Not sure of current availability, but the 2008 in Pompano Beach had major service done in November 2020, and the 2007 in Miami reportedly had A1 and A2 done in December 2020. Just a note that the 2008 has been on the market for two years.

But 80% of the boats I have called on have not had recent service, most have no record of any service.

Most of the good (from what I could tell) properly priced 58db's sold last fall. A couple of other good ones were taken off the market because owners couldn't find replacement boats.

Good luck, it's a jungle out there.

I can also verify that the one in Pompano was wayyy past due on service and had not been maintained by MAN guys. The overall boat wasn't that great but the lack of service was a deal killer for me on that one.

From what I was told they did the A1 and A2 in October or November last year, it was triple the normal price because they had to replace several components instead of clean them. I did not actually see the invoices, I was too scared by the other things he mentioned were issues. If what I was told about the engines is correct, they are no longer an issue with that boat.

Has anyone replaced their splendide 2000s washer/dryer and what did you replace it with. I’m going to replace mine and looking for recommendations.

My wife says I am the "wrinkler whisper" - and I keep mine running...

Yeah, I'm afraid of being gradually priced out of the market if trends continue as they have been this last year...

I'd have thought the 2007 Miami boat's asking is way too high, and that's the only 2007 on the market just now AFAIK. I haven't paid too much attention to it, though; not a fan of the bow davit or the teak...

I concur, and they want very close to asking, or at least they did a couple of weeks ago.

I replaced mine with Bosch units, though I had the separate washer and dryer, not the combination unit. IIRC, installed they were just over $5k.

One of the MAN diesel techs told me recently that Sea Ray moved from Twin Disc MG-5114A gears to ZF for the 58DB models, starting possibly in model year 2007. True? If true, which ZF model number? Pros/cons of either?

Aside from that, are there are other evolutionary changes from model year 2006 through 2007-2008 that would be worth some additional consideration?

Thanks, -Chris

Robert, I’ve replaced two over the years. One in my 2001 420AC before we did the Great Loop in 2015 & one in 2017 in our 2006 52DB. We use it heavy when we head South for the winter or really anytime we have a load. The Splendide Wrinklemasters have worked well for us but you’ve got to clean the dryer vent out and keep an eye on them. The routing of the hose and transition fitting have to be checked to make sure it’s free flowing properly. Beats the hell out of hauling laundry around.

We do take laundry back and forth from home as well as it’s more convenient when we’re back & forth for long weekends only.

I wish I could figure out how to get to the dryer vent on mine!

re: Gears

I don't have my survey report back yet and I forgot to jump into engine room to grab a picture, but a previous survey that was on the boat said they were ZF-360A. This is on a 2008 58DB.

All's Well I think your's are V drive correct? I think the IV signifies V drive.

re: Fuel Display
The MAN display on the 2008 I just surveyed did not have fuel level, just fuel burn. The fuel gauges are analog, although you should be able to convert the data to NMEA2000 to display on an MFD. I don't think the MAN displays will output NMEA2000 though, so your stuck doing math in your head if your looking for distance or time to empty.

Survey successful?

Any common things to watch out for in any of the 2005-2008 versions?

And clean the water pump filter located at the bottom right side behind that trim plate at least twice a year.

Surveys have been completed waiting on final reports and estimates for a few items. I have to say I was looking forward to my sea trial after talking with @bmac about how these run, and it was super impressive. We ran in 1.5' - 2' close chop and it was like running in flat calm water.

Besides owners not performing the MAN maintenance on the prescribed/suggested schedules the only common theme we have found with the 58's we looked at is the delamination and/or cloudiness in the woodwork.

The only other thing in common is it seems more than half these boats are owned by people who use them as a floating condo and as such they don't seem to keep up with maintenance in general, at least no where near my standards.

Just a note on your year ranges, there were two major changes that you should be aware of between 2005 and 2006. First, the MAN 900 CRM became standard instead of an option. The standard engine in 2005 was the MAN 800, not common rail. The second major change was the davit was removed and the hydraulic swim platform because standard.

Thanks, those two issues (non-maintenance and woodwork) are the only things I've seen mentioned, too. I'm more interested in the common rail engines so I've been focusing on 2006-2007 models. Haven't heard any strong preferences for the Twin Disc MG-5114A (2006) or the ZF360A (2007, I think) gears...

So far I guess I've been priced out of the current market. I've already pulled out of two negotiations due to that no-MAN-maintenance thing... partly also because I don't know enough about whether the MAN blocks could be permanently damaged by lack of the A2 service...

Are you advertising yet which boat you're after?
