I also pulled the plenum off and sprayed down the intakes.

Slight change of subject. I have the same engine, different positioning. My flame arrestors are blocked by the risers and there is no way to get them off without removing the exhaust hoses... and I'd rather not. I need to get into the intakes and spray also, and check the IAC - got a racing at idle issue.

How did the plenum come off, just the star bolts on the top? Can I remove it with the flame arrestor still connected?
 
Riser gasket will be a lot less than the four gaskets you'll need for the plenum. and if you remove the riser/elbow it gives you a chance to look things over inside.

Star bolts on top yes, however the throttle cable is attached to the throttle body and will prevent you removing it easily. There are also sensor wires and a vac tube underneath it that may bind when removing it in one piece.
