I am new boating, and a retired 70 year old, considering the purchase of a well maintained '86 Sundancer. Currently, one major thing does not work on the craft.

The AC has a leak and requires a fix, and a recharge.

Can anyone weigh in on whether an '86 AC (after repair) can be recharged? I am unfamiliar with marine AC's but know older home AC's ran on outdated refrigerant. That stated would repairs be a waste of effort? Might it be cheaper to replace the unit?

Lastly, if I am posting in the wrong place, just point me in the right direction.

Many thanks!

My 86 390EC has the original Marine Air ac units and they are charged with R22. If the unit in the boat you want to buy needs a charge you could probably get that done but personally I wouldn't fool around with it and plan a replacing it. About a $1500 DIY job.

Thankyou!

I figured as much. I can't imagine a unit of that age being a viable candidate for resurrection. Hopefully it can be successful fodder in lowering the price. The horn is out also so maybe combined the reduction Co ld be meaningful.
