Hello all, I had a catastrophic failure on a dripless seal Memorial Day weekend and I need to find out what type of Hurth I have mated to my 7.4L MCM’s. After pickling the engines and such I was finally able to put it overboard this past weekend and both oil seals are pouring fluid at the v-drives. I will try to make this short so all will know what happened that weekend.
Cruising along around 3000rpm’s and heard a clunk on the starboard motor from the ER and the motor died out but remained running. Put some gas to it and back on plane then it completely died out. Open the hatch and the port motor was turning up water. Shut that one down because I knew it wasn’t good. Flagged a jet ski down and had him tow me to shore where I walked the anchor out and winch it as far on the hard as the windlass would. At that point the water was above the dipsticks and the boat was lisping to the port side where it made its home for about 12 hours. So port motor prop was bent from rocking up and down and of course the starboard took a beating including sheared bolts on the shaft flange and the carbon stator broke in pieces Had the dripless replaced on the starboard and that prop sent to the laser shop and got a new port prop. Replaced both cutlass bearings, motors running, filled transmissions up and started seeing trans fluid under both seals where the shaft goes thru the transmission before I could even take it for a ride. All labels are gone on the transmissions but I know they are Hurth. Anyone know what the mode number would be?
Many thanks Chris
