Just had A/C/ unit replaced with same brand model due to shot coils. Now key pad does not come on. Tech said unit blows cold air but doesn't understand why key pad does not work.
I think they messed up the key pad on the install.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bob

I certainly do not know much about this, but I have been having some issues myself. For what I know, “triggers” are no longer used. There is a circuit board where the flat cable to the key pad(looks like a gray phone cord) plugs in. Make sure that is plugged in and tight. The key pad gets its power from this board. If it does not light up, something is not right with the board.....

Bob,

Can you give us some more detail....model of system and keypad?

There may be multiple jacks, make sure it's plugged into the correct jack in the Q logic board.

Also make sure the installer did not extend the controller cable using a standard phone cable to reach the new jack location. That will not work. Ask me how I know?

great info. Thanks everyone! This gives me ammo when tech wants to hit me up for a new keyboard which, probably will anyway . At least Im not flying blind..

Mott nailed it . HE simply plugged into the wrong jack . Its either cruisair or marine air. That's the issue 99% of the time.

Well, will offer a non scientific view.

Unplug that key pad, let it sit for awhile - then plug it back in. (I have no technical or fact based explanation).

We had just taken delivery of our 47DB in NC. Was leaving the next day to go to FL. AC quit on the bridge. MarineMax found us a tech that came out that night, replaced the controls and it worked. This was pop the cover out, take out a couple of screws and unplug/plug.

I kept the old control cause I am a packrat.

Few months later - quit again. Put the old controller back on and it worked. Swapped those two controllers more than once always got me back running.

Suspect something in the thermostat part had to be without power for a long time, not a few seconds.

I don't know. Sounds crazy I know. Frank W just go ahead and shoot me over my non scientific method - LOL.

thanks guys! Now Ive discovered that the cockpit speakers are not working. They were working when I left and prior to the A/c install. Head unit is coming on but nothing coming out of speakers. Wonder if the amplifier was shorted as well. circuit breakers are all "on". all other electronics seem to work. wish I would have been here when the install was done. A/C/ giy on his way.

Bob,

They are unlikely to be related. HVAC is AC powered and speaker system is DC. That said....anything is possible.

In regards to the HVAC....your original unit was 14 years old and there have been multiple revisions to the control board over time (Mott's post #7). Some require adapters to work with the old keypads. What I would suggest is that he bring a new key pad and plug it into the control board to determine if it is an adapter issue, control board or original keypad problem.

Bob,

One more thing.....the link Mott references includes this warning about the new Control Boards:

Only works with SMXIR displays made from 2005 to present

That would explain a compatibility issue if your keypad and original system were manufactured in 2004.

Why is it - when we leave our boats everything is working. Then 3-4 weeks later we show up at our boats and something is not working...

Just part of the joys of remote boat ownership I guess.
