Hi guy's, whent to the boat today tried ac 1st time this spring. Have no water circulating through unit, sea cock is open and strainer is clean, can feel pump in bilge feels like its humming but can't tell if impeller is spinning. I guess next step is to take apart housing and look at impeller, just want to see if anyone has a heads up ,or am I missing something. AC is easy to get to just under dinnette, heard sometimes they airlock and have to be bled. Just not sure what next step should be . Thanks again Tony.

It probably lost prime, the easiest thing to try is running the boat in plane and forcing water all the way into the system. You can also prime it by loosening the inlet hose and allowing water inside the pump.

On plane you should see water coming from the thru hull for the AC. If you do and it still doesn't pump on its on, pull the white plastic end off of the pump that houses the impeller. In my situation a year ago, the impeller would not spin on the ceramic shaft. I took a piece of 800 grit emory cloth and just really smoothed it up not that it felt rough. Also took a little marine grease and put on the shaft. Hooked it up in my shop and ran like a new one. Put it back in the boat and no issues all of last year nor this year.

You can buy the impeller and housing as well as the whole pump.

Use shop vac to blow air through strainer until you hear bubbles blowing below the boat. This will eliminate blocked inlet possibility.

I e done the same except with a garden hose. None of my AC pumps have been self priming. The garden hose flushed the "gunk"and primed the pump in one shot.

+1

Garden hose on AC hull discharge. Easily primes the pump. Have been doing it this way for years ... always successful. :smt038

Prime with a garden hose with the boat in the water and the sea cock open, correct?
