Advice and help with older sea ray 190br HELP!!!

The tank sat with about 1/4 over winter. I filled it up with 91 premium just last Friday was like 65L I put in and yesterday was the first time we used it. The tank is pretty full still sitting at 1/2-3/4 in between. Should I suck it out and pull tank out clean it all up?

If the gas is old you may need to run through a couple of fuel filters before you get all of the "bad" fuel out of the tank. Since it ran well initially with a new fuel filter hopefully replacing fuel filters until the crud is removed will work. It's a lot simpler and cheaper than removing the fuel from the tank and disposing.

I am kind of tempted to unscrew and remove the pump from the tank and suck the fuel all out with a small electric pump I have not sure yet where and what I am going to do with all the fuel yet lol. But if I tip the boat jack it all the way up high in the front should be able to suck out all the fuel I really don’t want to take the tank right out of boat what’s thoughts guys?

Ok and once I get all the gas out you think? I should spray with hot water in the tank and then suck that out or not a good idea? Just get the gas all out and that’s it?

Just suck out the gas. If you clean the tank use a solvent like alcohol or more fresh gas then suck that out. Don’t use water! You will never get it all out.

If you use an electric transfer pump be sure it is approved for fuels and flammable liquids.

if you save the old gas just burn it in your car a few gallons at a time.

If you want to rinse your tank after you remove the bad gas I would recommend 99% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). Isopropyl alcohol will dissolve most things and do a good job of cleaning the inside of your fuel tank. Suck out the isopropyl alcohol and then rinse with gasoline to remove the isopropyl alcohol. Suck out the gasoline you used to rinse and you should be ready to go.

Ok once I get it all clean then should be good to fill full with good clean gas and test out or should I just fill with a little bit 1/4 to 1/2 tank just to try it out first??

Just make sure it doesn’t leak around the sender after you reinstall it. Be gentle with it if you like having a fuel reading but don’t want to replace it. Might replace the seal though. Only way to know you are good on leaks is to fill it up. Make sure to check that the vent is also clear. Sometimes things get in there and cause problems too.

also clean the outside of the tank first. Then extract the fuel and rinse it out With solvent and repeat until the goo is gone.

Ok so update removed the fuller hose and vent hose both are cleaned out good got the tank suck out completely looks pretty good inside there is a couple little spots can see some black stuff not sure what but I am going to take the boat to town tomorrow get about 25L of fuel in it and drive back home hopefully that will swish around on the drive and I will jack it back up very high again in the front end and let it sit for 30mins or so and then suck that 25l out and hopefully that will do it

Also I am going to put like 4L of 99% isopropyl alcohol in the tank before I take it to go get 25L of fuel just to help clean things up and swish around in there.

That should give the tank a good cleaning. Just make sure it is the 99% isopropyl alcohol. The 70% isopropyl alcohol has 30% water which you don't want.

I'd replace the fuel line from the tank to the filter, too.

Probably overkill but there are services that come to your boat and polish your fuel. Mainly for larger boats but I’ve seen it done and it’s very impressive plus the replace your fuel all cleaned. The tank is left cleaned as well.

thanks captain but have to pass on that one on a shoe string budget as it is with this whole COVID junk was off work for a long time so this has to be all me fixing and the least amount as I can. I think the 4L of alcohol and 25l of gas the driving will swish it around and then suck that all out I think it will be good. It looks very good now. I have came up with some creations From stuff around my shop Lol to Be able to suck all the fluid out every drop. Thank you for all the help guys!!!

Tank looks a little more presentable I think lol add this in my list of things to do every 2-3 yrs clean top of tank lol.

Nice job! Before and after pictures are great.

Hey guys so I didn’t replace any fuel lines but I blow the line from tank to filter out with air and also the vent and fill line all are good and clear but for my engine is there any other fuel screens anywhere I should check or should I just fill the tank full and go out on lake see what happens? I got a brand new fuel filter on now and I have a spare new fuel filter on hand.

Well update the test run on lake did not go well. I couldn’t get over 2200rpm under load but just throttle revs up good 5000rpm. I manage to get on plane once up to 4000rpm and that was topped out then couldn’t get that again. When I have it all the way down and it only does 2200rpm it is like a engine feel shuttering/vibration. I came across this on another forum kind of similar to what mine is doing and same engine.
