General question:
I know that I don’t have a transmitter.
Not sure if my boat comes with a receiver?
If so, where would it be?
If my boat has neither how do other boats identify me with their radar?

You show up as a blip. Probably one among many. Folks navigating with radar mostly are interested in blips that are on their bearing lines. As blips get closer to their bearing lines they watch for blips that are closing on their port and starboard as well as in front of them. The boats around you you without radar see you when their eyes make contact with your boat.

Radar works by transmitting a signal and looking for its return after reflecting off an object. Your boat will reflect the signal and be displayed on the radar display.

If you happen to be transmitting AIS then the other boat would need to have an AIS receiver that will pickup your info and location. That can also be displayed on the MFD independent of the radar image.

Having the two coincidence confirms that radar data much like overlaying a radar image on a chart.

Newer radar can also implement Doppler to better judge if the object is moving and the direction.

AIS works through VHF signal. Your AIS receiver will be in your VHF radio (if equipped) and this signal may be sent to a MFD through NMEA 0183 or NEMA 2000. Radar is radar and it is independent of AIS.
