Alternative to expensive remote control for sport yachts

Working on a plan to do just that. Want to see what interest there may be in the product before I invest too much in it. Not looking to build an empire, just having some fun enhancing the yachting experience. Gotta be safe though for sure.

What happens if the remote looses connection with the boat? Does everything fail to neutral?
Yes. The receiver has relays for each channel that are programmed to operate as normally open-momentary switches. If the transmitter loses communication with the receiver it will be the same as releasing the switch.

How would it work without electronic shifters? Mine are hydraulic. I would assume i would need to install actuators of some type no?
If your drive control levers on the bridge simply activate electric micro switches they likely they operate electro/hydraulic solenoids on the drives. This system simply parallels the microswitches and will operate your drives and thruster.
Feel free to PM me to get into the details of the installation and operation.
Cheers

Thanks for the Interest in the remote system all. Please PM me for costs and specific application questions. Just did some tweaking to remove some bugs

A topic I have done quite a bit of research on.

When I get a chance will post findings and experience.

Short note - "how" the system connects makes a lot of difference.

Very cool system. I can see where it would be extremely useful, especially for fly-bridge boats with poor sight lines to the corners. I curious whether you ever considered incorporating stern thruster buttons on your remote in case a boat owner with that feature wanted your device.

Rusty - great video. I have a Captain Controller on Reward and I couldn't live without it because of my aft sunshade over the cockpit - I have no visibility backing in the slip from the helm. Susan learned from Mrs. Sea Gull that it's called a "Marriage Saver"...FrankW makes fun of me (he calls it my "Game Boy") - I just think he is jealous!!!

As an aside, mine also has windlass controls which can be valuable as well...

I figured some might want a stearn thruster option and I will be incorporating that ability once I know there is a market for them. The controller has room a couple more channels. My interest is to keep it simple and affordable. If one needs to control multiple systems I’d refer them to the Yacht Controller.

Great job. Definitely a useful feature on bridge boats or one person operation for docking.

Just a little update on the MY Copilot. Have decided not to really market it rather provide info and components to DIYers through WoM. I don't want to ruin my past time by turning it into a business like I did with thirty years in aviation.
I do have an eight channel unit in the works to include those with stern thrusters. Now over two years of regular use with no issues other than occasional user error, IE turn on the master switch before leaving the helm!
Carpe Diem Everyone

Rusty, what the cost be for the My Copilot system? I have the QSC 8.3 600 in my boat and am intreated in adding remote controls for the transmissions and bow thruster. Also, is this a relatively simple system to install?

Update on My Copilot. I went ahead developed a system that incorporates a stern thruster. Works on 12 or 24 volt systems. This is the transmitter. Have yet to install one.....

Do you have a simple version that just does the shifters? I would want one for the sole purpose of standing at the windlass bumping shifters while I deploy/retrieve anchor. That's the only thing I would use it for.

Ive been using hand signals and my 9 year old at the helm while I retrieve the anchor. With enough care and feeding, this system will keep running for years ;)

I have contemplated doing something like this with the electric shift. I would be interested too in a 4 button version.

You would just install the original one with the bow thruster but only use the drive function or even use the thruster channels to operate the windlass. It’s really quite adaptable. PM me for details.
Cheers
