I have lost AM reception and FM reception is poor. Just started this season. My shrink wrap folks did a poor job last winter and it appears that my FM antenna may have been damaged. This is the 8 inch rubberized antenna on the arch that is standard on SeaRays. I filled the crack in the antenna with epoxy, but this did not help. I decided to just replace the antenna but I cannot find one. Anyone had this issue and used an aftermarket antenna. If so, what brand?

I have a pretty elaborate sound and video system on my boat and was never happy with the FM reception on the Clarion head unit. I had a friend recommend using my existing 8' Shakespeare VHF to do double duty as an FM antenna, The splitter was about $50 but it works great. I'd suggest scrapping your broken one and using it's mounting location to upgrade to a Sirius Antenna then you'll have both good AM/FM and satellite reception. Here's the splitter info:

"Shakespeare's 4357-S Antenna Splitter eliminates the need for separate AM/FM antennas and allows operation of AM/FM and VHF radios at the same time without interfering with VHF radio performance. Complete with 10' RG-62 AM/FM cable, 3' RG-58 VHF cable, and connector installed. Works with all types of marine VHF antennas."

It's available at Boaters World, West or online. Looks intimidating but very easy to install.

unscrew your antenna and check if there is a cable attached to it.

Thanks ti all who replied. I did indeed check the cable at the base of the current antenna. I like the splitter idea and will pursue that option. Thanks again.

Those Cheapo Glomax stuff

My Glomax AM/FM 8" whip is simply junk. I'm on my third piece of crap. The plastic is made from garbage plastic.

Thanks for the tout on this Shakespear gizmo ... I'm on it and I'll mount a WIFI antenna in the Glomax 's place.

I love dis site!
