It all depends on the depth of where you anchor and the conditions. Anywhere from a 3:1 to a 7:1 scope. Be prepared with more than you anticipate.

390 DA anchor rope size? I just got a bucket from West Marine of 9/16 rope and 5/16 chain and I'm second guessing myself. Should I have 5/8? Will the 9/16 work with the windlass? I'm all confused.... As usual.

When I replaced the rope/chain rode on my 360 I called Imtra to buy a 5/8” / 5/16” rode to replace what was on the boat.
They told me to buy the 9/16” / 5/16” rode because the Progress 1 windlass would handle the chain splice better. They were right.
You’re good.

I just went through this. Mine had 5/8” line and 5/16” chain. My windlass excepts 5/8” or 9/16” line, so I decided to go with 9/16” and braided the 3 strand nylon line to the chain. I added a Mantus S2 swivel. I had never braided the line before but like @Soulshine stated YouTube is your friend. IMO it came out perfectly.View attachment 142066The windlass will for sure dictate the size needed. :)

Way to go!

The funny thing about splicing for me is that when I was 12 years old I could do it like a pro. Now I find it confusing, but I get by with the rare practice I get.

I'll be doing mine in April and hope to produce a smoother and tighter splice than the last one that I did for my stern rode. That one's been through hell for 10 years.

The flawless splices I see in the braided line make me queasy just looking at them.
