I have a similar issue to a couple other recent posters, just recently started. 1999 carbureted Westerbeke gas genny....It would run anywhere from 5 minutes to two hours and then just quit and not start until everything was cold.... not just the Genny, but the entire bilge had to be cold.

Maybe it's just coincidental, because I'm having a hard time making sense of it, but the observed symptom was that it would start when the engine room was cold, and would NOT start if the boat engines were running for any period of time. And if I started the boat engines AFTER the genny, the genny would continue to run for a bit, but quit after some period of time..... sooner if I didn't run the bilge fan.

Then it devolved.. now it will start and run (a) if cold and (2) ONLY if I keep holding the START/PREHEAT button.

You have one of the safety switches going bad. When holding down the start button you are bypassing the oil pressure safety switch until the engine develops pressure on it's own.

If you are having to hold that switch to keep it running, I would suspect that oil pressure safety switch as being faulty.

The fuel pump would be easy to check. Also checking to oil pressure switch is easy as well.
I have a similar issue. Can I jumper out the oil pressure safety Switch to test? Tough part is it quits about 20 minutes in and that is a long ways from a bunch of tools. Idles fine but then after it dies once WONT stay running any longer than 20-30 seconds tops. Any more pointers you could provide would be much appreciated
Thank you
