Any cutting slip prices by Marinas yet?

We are in a different world down here on the Gulf coast............still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Michael in Oct, 2018. 4 of 7 local marinas were destroyed and we are lucky to just have a slip. None of the existing marinas are even thinking about occupancy rates or cutting slip lease rates since there is a waiting list to get space in the marina and forget anything over 14 ft beam.

The marinas are open pretty much for customers to go fishing only. Fishing, it seems, is an essential activity.......even if the cost of the boat, slip rent, the insurance, the fuel, etc. totaled up makes the cost of the fish somewhere around $500/lb. The State has closed all the beaches and the state parks (who owns the local preferred anchoring spot) and the Federal Gov DOD owns about 20 miles of pristine undeveloped beach bordering Tyndall AFB which is closed to the public even if you have the required recreational permit. If you anchor off one of the beach areas here you will get a visit from a Sheriff's patrol boat, the FWC, the USCG or the State park ranger's boat to count how many persons on on board and lecture you on COVID-19 precautions. One of the biggest tourist draws here is party boat or head boats where about 50 anglers pay $35-50/day or part of a day to go off shore in a 50ft to 90ft well equipped safe off-shore boat. The state has prohibited and head boat activity because they need to carry far more then 10 passengers to break even.

All the beaches and beach access points here are closed thanks to a few idiotic Spring Breakers who refused to abide by the State executive order about groups of more than 10. All restaurants, bars and nightclubs are closed except for drive thru windows, and take-out orders. With the beaches closed, all the amusements closed, and no place to go eat, the tourist business id DEAD.

We've survived a Cat 4 and a Cat 5 hurricane and we will survive this, but it sure is hurting a lot of local small businesses.

Not likely to drop around here.
Plenty of boatyards sold out to developers over the last few decades. Slips aren’t plentiful.

What I was also thinking is that a lot of people will not be making money and start to cut off the items deemed not necessary. Perhaps I am mistaken but if the pandemic continues and it is just starting in Florida where I am I thought a lot of people just wont want or be able to pay.

my marina has a special on a few slips, 1 covered and the rest uncovered, about 15% off

not many are open, maybe 10 slips out of 350ish

WA state has closed all sport fishing and closed the ramps that give fishermen access to the waters. They also closed "all waters" in the state.

No mention of our situation where the boat is in a slip on the Columbia. Nothing to prevent us from going out for a cruise. They can come count both of us to make sure we're under 10, but the local water cops all know me and are familiar with our boat. I doubt we would even get more than a friendly wave if they did see us on the water.

How do they stop someone from living in their house, right? you are staying in a house..... yea, that's it!

I suspect our gubernator was talking outa his butt when he said they closed all the waters. The Columbia and Snake are USACE Navigational Waters. The state doesn't have the power to close those.

Sorry Gub, but waddya expect from the "Nation's Biggest Loser". (He was the first to drop out of the presidential race, leaving only about a hundred dems in the running).

I’ve seen him speak on TV a few times. He’s a real a$$hole!

Yeah, and that's what he usually speaks out of.

As grocery stores across the country are refusing to take customer-owned multiple use bags because they can easily transfer COVID-19 germs, our gubernator just signed into law a bill that outlaws single-use bags and requires an $.08 charge for paper bags. Yup, he's right on top of things.

All Safe Harbor Marinas in NY closed today tentatively until April 11
We reluctantly left Safe Harbor starting this spring due to significant rate increases for both summer and winter storage. This was after steep increases in 2017. My understanding is we were not the only ones who left and they are having difficulty filling the large vacant slips. This was before all the COVID-19 issues so likely even more challenging for them to fill the vacancies now

I asked our Safe Harbor Marina today why they are open under the essential business only rule....the Person I asked should have known and didn’t
Why was yours still open ?.... are they just staying open until they get caught ?
I have to carry a letter around in my car to give law enforcement if I ever get pulled over and asked why I am not abiding by the stay at home order in Michigan while I am going back and forth to work.

I was thinking about this the other day. A marina is effectively a trailer park on the water. An argument could be made that it contains many people's "second homes". That's certainly how the IRS sees it. I can see them shutting down repair services, gas docks, ramps, etc., but to deny people access to their own property seems like a violation of their personal property rights.

As for prices, I don't see those coming down until and unless people start moving out.

Here in Texas they fall under the 'outdoor activities' line item which is acceptable assuming you uphold the social distance 6' rule.

Weather was beautiful here yesterday. Took advantage of it and unwrapped the boat. The boatyard is launching boats. I’m going to get started on my spring polish, wax, bottom paint ritual this week. Already a week or two behind schedule.
Fortunately, I don’t dock in a marina. I own the private property I dock my boat at so no problem for me once my boat gets back in the water.

That letter from Safe Harbor was for Jefferson Beach Marina in Michigan.... I am in a Safe Harbor Marina in Ohio...same deal though
That didn't last long Jefferson Beach just closed.... didn't say for how long. Not a good sign

In Michigan they've defined essential businesses a bit tighter perhaps. Only activities necessary to "sustain or protect life" are allowed. The irony (in my opinion) is that the supply chains to sustain and protect life go deep, very deep.

I believe Michigan marinas that already have boats in the water could be required to stay open to support those boats, such as live-ins. The problem is most of us are still in storage. Launching of boats does not fall within "sustain or protect life" nor any of the "needy, low income" housing exemptions as far as I could tell. They aren't much of a residence if they are blocked up inside a building with no water, no power :)

Just saw this this morning...I dont dock here and dont know if this is a deal or not. Its bad if Jimmy's cuttin' prices!!

Drove up to the marina today. It's in a state park and they blockaded the whole thing. Can't even get close. Kinda sucks.
