I too am sad to see the season end. But I also look forward to fall and winter so I can get some things done around the house as we are at the boat EVERY weekend for the short 5 month season. I enjoy drinking around the fireplace in the cabin too!

I am sad to see it end but as others have said we are on the boat EVERY weekend plus a few week long trips in the summer so in a way I t is nice in the fall to not worry about what the weather and wind are going to be that coming weekend. It is also nice to do some non boat related activities as well. We are 6-8yrs from taking the boat south for the winter but that will be in the future for us.

I’m sad. This year sucked as I was working more than boating. When I could get away the weather sucked. I’m paying for inside storage so i can go hang over the winter. But I’m so done with Chicago and the crappy weather. Debating whether to scale back my dreams and get out and enjoy life on the cheap. Somewhere warm.

Golfman,
December 1985, living in Cleveland where we grew up. Shoveling the drive in a storm one night and it blew right back in my face. I dropped the shovel, walked in the house and told the wife "we are out of here i am not spending the rest of my life in this sht". We had vacationed at the ocean in Maryland and loved it. 1 month later I was living in Maryland, had a job the day I arrived, wife stayed , sold the house, joined me a month later. We have never regretted it. Mild winters (hardly any anymore), boating April thru November. So glad we did it.

Yep, I get the winter blues as well, now. We use to rent a place for the winter in NY's Adirondacks and take the Yamaha's out every weekend (Drove up after lunch on Fridays). That was awesome and totally beat the blues away. But now there back, living on the bay - summer is so awesome that just amplifies the crappy winter with no sleds or boat. I need to retire and go south I believe ...

This is why I don’t winterize until around Thanksgiving. Then, it’s just 3 months of no boating. That’s just enough time for a warm weather vacation and getting a few boat upgrade projects going. By March, we are chomping at the bit. We unwrap before April. Keeping the off-season as short as possible helps.

This season felt abnormally short of boat use. Weather didn't cooperate (rain, high winds), and my kids had a lot of weekend sports stuff.
You had that great trip bringing her home.

Same here I don’t pull the boat until the first week of December, fall is my favorite time of year all the yo-yos are off the water and I get to relax and enjoy a few months of calm boating and fishing, I keep the Achilles in most of the year and do clamming and seal watching over the winter, Long Island we still have year round boating.

I am enjoying this thread. We live in GA and did not winterize the boat last year. There were a few nights that got below freezing and I kept my fingers crossed. Luckily we made it though. I am going though some sadness. I have decided to winterize this year. We have several trips planned over the winter. My wife would never go out with me when the weather dropped anyway. Since we wouldn't be out much, I figure no need to worry. Luckily our winter is short. Wishing for an early spring.

You’re lucky with the short winter Wave, and I’m hoping for an early spring here in Michigan too, it’s a tall order for Mother Nature sometimes tho lol

Typically I pull late, launch early. Not this spring. Last spring i was so anxious i never got a chance to really remove the winter grime or wax. This spring I will launch after it gets a nice cleaning, wax, tip top looking good.
I really would love to replace all gauges as next project. Marina mechanic said $800 - $1k in labor. I can crimp a wire, do myself. Spring project
After this summer i will slow down and maybe enjoy the land time as much as the water time.

Fall boating ….is the best boating. You guys pulling premature is wrong…. My wife said this weekend she wanted to deal with some kid problems….I said fine I will change the oil and we will go out on the boat next weekend.
I look at the weather …which is near perfect…..and the fact Octoberfest is going on …on the island…. And my yacht club is holding a Texas holdm tournament…. I said guys weekend :)

I got three guys to commit….just a blast…they are not boat guys so a tiny bit stressful

Nice weekend blue, you are not alone, my boat is still in, going out today and tomorrow since weather looks great both days:) hardly anyone on our lake, so peaceful and nice. Probably will pull out next weekend, depending on forecast. Gotta be out by end of October.

I look forward to winter maintenance season. I don't winterize the boat since it's stored indoors and never freezes in there. I can work on it and get it ready for the spring. If I was in a climate where I boated all year, I think it would get dull and boring. Maybe not, but I like the change to winter, hunting, skiing and look forward to the spring when we can launch again! Having just retired, I'm looking forward to having MORE prep time!!
