While going through some boxes to see what we could put out for a yard sale I came across a wrist watch I hadn't seen for many years. It's a "first generation" men's Accutron, gold color with a square face and gold band and is in the original box.

I looked on ebay but didn't see one like it. I'm just curious about the value of it. On ebay those old Accutron's range everywhere from ~$30 to ~450.

If anyone on here knows anything about old watches and needs a photo to verify which model it is I'll post a photo.

There's enough money flying around this place....there HAS to be a watch expert among us :) Me, not so much.

Post a pic? Sounds like a cool find.

Not a expert/collector here either... quick Google search shows square faced Aucctron Legacy watches for $1500 to $2000.

OK, I got off my butt and took a couple of photos of the watch.

Is this one of those $1500 beauties?

I also found a couple of old Seiko's and two government issue military watches. This going through old drawers and boxes is kinda fun.

Vintage Seiko automatics are worth a decent amount of money these days. Especially the early dive watches like the Turtle, 62MAS, Captain Willard and the Marinemasters.

Are you looking to sell it or are you just curious?

If you want to sell it, and are uncertain of the “value,” here’s what you do…. Put it on eBay with as much information as possible and as many pictures as possible, and list it as a “no-reserve” auction. I will 100% guarantee you that it will sell for exactly what it’s worth - which is limited to what an interested buyer is willing to pay.

While no expert on the value I do have 18 watches, yes I'm addicted to buying nice watches. Funny thing is I only wear 3 different ones. Love the Seiko watches have three my Seiko Astron Dual Time is my everyday favorite to wear.
That is a really nice looking watch you have, nice find.

lprof, thanks, but it wasn't really a nice find. I bought it new way back when and wore it as a dress watch for years. I'd forgotten about it until I was going through my gun safe and found it.

Wonder if the next couple generations will be willing to spend that kind of coin on an item like a mechanical watch? I mean it can't even tell you if you are active or not or will take voice commands to power your electronics on and off.....

Thornton, I doubt the person who would buy the watch (if I decided to sell it) would buy it to wear, he'd buy it as a collector piece. The mechanical aspect of the watch would be an addition to its value because of its age.

Funny, I have not worn a watch in close to 20 years. I guess I don't care what time it is. :):)

I bought my second (ever) mechanical watch last summer. Based on what I went through to get the one I wanted I'd say the market is alive and well. And it's not all old codgers buying them based on my experience (not to mention the age of the folks selling the watches!)...

There is something about automatic watches that I find fascinating. Prices during COVID, like everything, have skyrocketed, even in the used market. I tell my kids that when the zombie apocalypse comes, we'll see who will be able to tell the time of day after your cell phones and smart watches have run out of juice. (queue the eye rolls)
