Auto auction question..

I've been addicted to bringatrailer.com for some time. I've bid twice but didn't win the car. I have a friend who's sold a couple of cars on it. I watch it everyday and probably have a half dozen cars/bikes saved as we speak.

The name is very misleading and I think puts newbies off. They have sold some BIG dollar collector cars. Even had a Ferrari La Ferrari on there than bid well over a million bucks but I don't believe it sold.

Porsches are a very well represented brand and if I ever decide to sell mine I'm sure I'll give the site a try with a decent reserve.

Good luck.

It is very addictive to watch for sure, I have watched a lot of them and I know that they kind of stall after the first day or so then go like gang busters the last couple days but I think this is going to be a long stressful week for me waiting to see what happens with my car.

I was really supprised myself at the amount of high dollar cars that they sell and the amount of guys that spend a ton of money on so many cars, one of the guys spent over 1.5 mill in the last 18 months.

Very cool car with nice track/autocross upgrades. I'm a long-time track rat and I'll bet it's a ball to drive.
The car is a riot to drive even on the street, when you close off the two center exhaust it is pretty reasonable sound wise, it also has a full race exhaust that is basically straight pipes off the headers and that is just nuts.

This was my summer car for years and I was auto crossing a Cobra Mustang and then figured I would turn this into a street / auto cross car I had never tracked a rear engine car before other than karts so when I first got it together I spent more time going backwards than forwards it took me a long time to learn it.

Fingers crossed for you today. Good luck!
Thanks man, The auction topped out at just over 30 grand so I still have the car. I was in touch with BaT the last couple days with concern about the traffic on the auction and they said that this week all of their auctions were down over 30% they think it had to do with the tax deadline yesterday. A lot of people did not plan for having to owe.

That being said I have been following them for a good 6 months and I was watching 4 other cars while doing mine that I thought should have gone for a lot more. Part could be the taxes but I almost feel like they flooded the auctions. They use to only put 7 to 10 Porsche’s on at the same time they had 47 going at one time this round. But who knows it was an experience.

You should pick up a copy of the April issue of Panoramma. It has about 14 modified cars for sale in a price range of $8,000 to $550,000. This is pretty typical of offerings for sale in the magazine. All members of the Porsche Club of America receive the mag as you probably know. If most are like me, (dubious assumption), "the Mart" is one of the first sections they read. You get to see asking prices for cars like the ones you own. Excellence, another Porsche publication, features both asking and sold prices and that's interesting reading as well. Both magazines have standards about truth in advertising that regulate what is printed in their mags. Members have a certain amount of faith that the cars are not being misrepresented. You might want to consider them as an alternative to auctions.

Yeah, I watched it go down and was surprised with the result. Porsche owners are funny about modified cars especially when it's mechanical. I think they fear the cost of having to fix it if something major goes wrong. But even with that the price was silly low. Funny, in the same run an 800 mile Cayman GT4 went for $95.5K which seems like all the money on that car.

It almost seems that someone who knows the car locally would be more interested since they'd know your history as well. How active and how big is your local PCA club? Ours in the North Texas region is very active and I've seen a lot of cars switch hands between members. Perhaps that's something to pursue, if you haven't already.

Nice thing about not selling it is you get to drive it while you wait.

The local guy is supposed to come by this weekend and check out the car, I have a feeling though by taking to him that his budget is pretty close to his bid. There is also a guy that bid that wants to see it but he wants to drive it back to Colorado, I told him the car itself will make it no problem, just needs street tires, street alignment and softening the suspension the easy part but the race gas will kill him.

Since you were following, I did think it was funny a couple of the bidders going crap I thought I could get in to a 911 for under 25 grand.

I am thinking to myself I would drive the thing in to the lake before I took that kind of money. I watched a yellow one a few weeks back that actually had the passenger mirror duct tapped to the door cracks everywhere in the paint and it went for I think 90.

I just don’t understand what people were thinking the car is pretty damn clean with top of the line parts.

I stopped driving it because racing became work with my daughter doing shifter carts and setting the car up for my wife I just wanted to go back to boating ( not sure what’s more expensive... lol ). So you are right after having some fun with the car again I went and got plates today for it. I never really wanted to sell it anyway but I ordered a Challenger widebody Scatpack and I was going to offset the cost a bit now unless something changes I’ll just move it to the back garage and have another toy..

Comments on BAT are always entertaining. It's funny because some of them come from people with crazy deep subject matter knowledge and other you just wonder how they make it through life unassisted.

You're very fortunate to have the garage space to keep it in. If I had unlimited space I'd probably end up in the poor house. :) With my limited space we keep 4 cars and 3 motorcycles fit in like a tetras puzzle. If anything is going to be added something else has gotta go.
