Looking for input on how best to remove barnacles from underwater exhaust outlets on 2006 44DA. The manual states the outlets are bronze; assume muriatic acid and wire brushing would be ok. Also noticed barneys on water intakes on bottom, looks like they too are bronze. The boat now resides in fresh water environment. Thanks for any insight.

When I brought mine from salt to fresh water, I had to scrape barnacles off the flat surfaces, and I “chiseled” oysters out of the exhaust the best I could. A gentle hit at the base would dislodge them. Be gentle and go slow, you can get most of the growth off.

After a couple weeks in fresh water, I had several complete oyster shells in my strainer baskets.

My diver scrapes them off when we are in salt water. Fresh water will kill them, but they still stay attached. Seems like when we are in fresh water in the summer, I am always doing some scraping on the platform metals...
