Hi all. I'm enjoying my Sundancer 240, which I've owned for only 2 months, and learning a lot about it. I'm puzzled over the bathing platform insert. Seems to me it's a way of accessing the stern drive but it won't lift out. It is clearly a separate piece from the platform but it's stuck solid. Could it just need a little persuasion is is there something I'm missing...?

If you are talking about the oval insert with air holes in in, it is not for accessing the drive. Its to allow air and water pressure to vent through the platform so that there is not upward water pressure that can lift and damage the platform.

Hi, yes I get that, I was only wondering if it's removable as it would make a good access. I don't do planing or high speeds as I'm on a river in England (7mph max)
Its not really great access anyway. Much too small and the important things to access are too low to reach through that hole. Drive maintenance means pulling the boat onto land.

St. Ives, a beautiful place! I've had the great fortune to visit a couple times for work.

Ah, it's not that St. Ives. Mine is in Cambridgeshire in the middle of England.

Indeed. The Dolphin Hotel is an ideal location for an out of towner such as myself :) Shoot, I lifted a few pints at the Oliver Cromwell too. I had to beg them to stop playing a Beyonce CD on repeat. So they threw in a Beatles album. I think they were just messing with me.

Oh blimey I go in those places. Although the Dolphin is now full of illegal migrants (very sad place). The OC is still doing well but my local is The Nelson's Head where we have great music gigs!

Hah. I had a blast. St Ives is one of the more enjoyable "walkable" towns I've stayed in over there. There was a hotel in town...can't recall the name...but to this day it's the best pot pie I've ever had. Ohh man...

I think the Oliver Cromwell was one of the first places I'd been to that actually served cask/warm beer too.

The swim platform and its pieces are not intended to be removeable for service. Just watch your head when under pulling the drive!

Nice boat!
Yes that's the place. The sunday afternoon gigs are legendary. My boat is moored at Jones' boatyard.View attachment 129309
My wife and I rented a 40 footer from LeBoat last October and did a 2 week cruise on the Thames. It was a marvelous adventure.
A point of note...it is common practice to leave the boat fenders deployed at all times in the UK, unlike in America where folks seem to find that practice irritating for some strange reason.

Sounds like a lovely trip!
Regarding the fenders, well it depends. I guess on the rivers we are going through locks fairly often it's not worth hoisting them onboard. Though in some parts of the Thames (like Henley) it is considered bad form to leave them dangling!
We went thru Henley and that was my wife's favorite of all. Abbingdon and Eton/Windsor were first class as well.

So you guys suck at illegals too?
