I hear there's a new ceramic or some kind of new wax/coating people are using to better protect gel coat on there boats...…...

By buffing - I assume you mean using polish? I'm a bit old school - I use a couple of different products to get the final gloss with the polish and then put on Collinite wax to protect the getcoat. '05 DA with a blue hull that looks brand new.

TJ, That's what I used on my 2001 280 as well but there's this new stuff that's called ceramic pro that might be better for protection. Especially down here in this FL relentless sun. New boat to me has blue hull as well

That makes sense for FL. Fortunately I keep my boat in covered rack storage here in Ohio. The only sun exposure it gets is when I take it out so I want a durable finish but don't need anything exotic. .

I had my Porsche ceramic coated this year and so far it is amazing. I've never known my black 911 to be THAT black, deep, rich and shiny as it currently is! Now, I have no idea if it is the same product for boats, but if it is..... I'll be looking to do it.

I'm about to get my Porsche detailed. Is the ceramic product a liquid coating? Does it create issues as it ages like the films do? Do they clay the paint first? Approximate cost?

Can you give me more info on the ceramic coating. I've got a artic silver 996 that needs to get detailed.

Not trying to hijack this thread but I had my wife’s Black SRT Jeep Ceramic Coated. The process was paint correction, clay bar , polish the Ceramic coating. I paid for the 5 year product. $500.00 for labor and products.

My daughter has a 2016 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited that she bought new then had 4" lift, 35" tires and 4.88 gears installed on. She had a ceramic coating put on. I think they sprayed it on but not sure. I can ask her. I know she paid about $1100 and when it gets dirty she said she can pretty much spray it off and it's clean. Her boyfriend has a 2013 FX4 F150 and just had it done on it too.

My detailer is "certified" by Opticoat to do this work. https://www.opticoat.com He spent 3 days stripping all wax and surface impediments (I'm guessing the boating equivalent of wet sanding), color correction then multiple applications of the liquid ceramic product. Now, I wasn't physically there to see the steps but it was about $1000.00 to do the entire job on a Porsche Carrera S2 cabriolet.

For whatever it's worth I just recently did a side-by-side comparison between Hydrosilex (a spray on ceramic) and Meguires Flagship. The hydrosilex smelled amazing. Especially the pre-cleaner step. Sadly, that was about as far as the benefits went for this $50 per bottle wonderfulness.

The spray on ceramic did absolutely nothing to the gel. You couldn't even tell I had touched it after proper prep and multiple coats. The Meguires left the typical shine I expected after one wax-on, wax-off cycle.

Your mileage may vary.

My previous boats I always used Collinite Fleet wax, I had the best shinning boat at the marina but it was a pain to apply

I after a buffing or cleaning I apply Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wax with the DA and wipe off with a bunch of microfiber towels and have been happy.

I’ve been using Collinite Insulator Wax on my hull as a last step product for several years now. It seems to last longer then other products I’ve tried.
I generally launch in early April and stay in until late November so longevity is important to me since I can’t do the sides when the boat is in the water.

I have been in a routine of using a cleaner wax (starbrite premium cleaner wax with PTFE) applying by machine (foam pad only). The boat at this stage looks incredible. For an overall long lasting seasonal shine, I apply another wax (Collinite Paste 885) by hand. This brings me through the season (April....November)

I used to polish the boat with 3M Finesse IT II, but the gel is now very shinny, and no longer requires a polishing step.

If you are dealing with mild chalkyness, that 3M product is great with a machine. I suggest foam over wool, to eliminate swirl marks......

The paint coatings are good until touch up is needed. When ever a car with such a product came into the shop after sanding through the special coating it was a mess to sand the actual paint. It would gum up the DA. I was told that it was because the paint was sealed and not allowed to breath since it is drying all the time.

Almost the exact program I’ve been using, except I use Colonites cleaner wax. Polished with Finesse last year. This year was just the cleaner wax followed by a layer of paste.

Came out like a mirror.

I am going to try one of the new sealer Nano type coatings on my topside this year.

I'm going with the ceramic coating this time, down here wax needs done every 3 months, plus I can't do it anymore so I'll let you guys know how it turns out, guarantee is 18 months but would be happy with 12 ;)

This is a bit off the subject, but any suggestions on cleaning the seats on my 29 AJ...Have tried just about everything and cannot get the embedded grease marks off. Seems to have gotten worse. Have heard about using a magic eraser and then a special cleaning pad with degreaser. Any help would be appreciated. Also any recommendations on cleaning the decks....used degreaser....with a pressure cleaner....got better but still stains in some areas....
