I have been to West End many times, and although it is a great place, it might getting very boring if you are planning to stay for more than a couple of days. You may want to break it up and head over to Port Lucaya for a few of days as well. Even better would be to get over to the Abacos, but I understand the entails quite a bit more planning, and fuel.

Another option would be to jump on one of the Bahama sponsored "Boat Flings". There is one to Grand Bahama Island on June 12-16. This a guided trip with multiple boats, leaving from Ft. Lauderdale, put on by the Bahama Islands tourism board. Although I have never been on one, I hear they are a great first Bahamas trips. Find out more: https://www.bahamas.com/faq/boating-flings

The only thing I dont like about the flings is they tend to go "no matter what" no real adjustments for weather, etc - I was at Bahia Mar when a group was scheduled to leave (including a friend on a 44db) - It was pretty nasty - This was on an "extended" trip to Eluthera - I caught up with her after the trip and they actualy "lost" a boat on the trip - It sunk! The guys wife was not amused! Now you can say they were lucky other boats were around, and I'm sure there was some "captains error" involved, but I know it was a smaller boat, and he shouldn't have been out there in those conditions.....As for the question of where, If leaving from ft. laudedale, i would do Bimini - stay at the hilton - plenty to do! If doing west end or Port Lucaya leave out of lake worth...Crossing to Bimini in fair weather (especially on a weekend), there are a lot of boats on the same route coming and going.....
 
I am interested I live in South FL. I was planing going over to Bahamas in late May early June. Bimini is better the Hilton is nice Casino and lots of rooms. West end lest thing to duo and longer trip for small boat. I have 340 Sundancer cruises 23kn. For Bimini you will put is Key Biscayne is a strait shot 47NM. :):cool:

We were planning our first trip for this summer and would like to go across with a group. We were going to trailer down and cruise around S Fl for a few days then shoot across. Just the two of us in our 23' Century, but our goal is to be in a 31-36' by summer of '20 so we can cruise the coast. We are in Savannah and live 20 mins from the intercoastal by boat. Would love to join you guys!
