I am buying a 2004 Sundancer 39 and anticipate a request from my wife for a handhold or two to enhance boarding safety. We are mid-70's and quite active, but have become more cautious each year when it comes to potential falling situations. Has anyone added a handhold or two on the stern to assist the boarding process? I'd love a description...better yet a photo. Much Thanks

Welcome aboard... is this boat up on Catawba ?

Not this one but it looks to be in the same pristine condition, but with the enhanced cockpit coverings . It is presently docked in Marina Del Rey, CA, prior to that it was in San Diego for about three years, and prior to that at Lake Havasu, AZ. I'm impressed at how clean and well-kept it is for a 15 year old vessel, and only 350 hours on the Mercrusier motors. The only thing I can find lacking is an overboard maceration pump-out for the holding tank...we take multi-day cruises to SoCal's offshore islands which do not have the convenience of pump-out stations...so I'll be looking for input on how to install same.

Great suggestion...thank you! (the gal in the photo looks just like my wife!!!!!)
LOL mine too...

I installed a set on mine and I love them.

Most boats are our marina put some type of post on the dock close to where people board, rather than a post on the boat. The posts is usually 4"=5" PVC with a couple branches used to hold water hoses.

I admit a lack of knowledge as I don't even own the boat yet (a couple of more weeks), but isn't the underside of the swimstep closed up with fiberglass...maybe even part of the hull layup? How does one access the underside of the sockets to obtain a secure and watertight fit? Thanks for any insight...

How does one access the underside of the swimstep to get to the underside of the socket in order to obtain a tight and sealed fit? From pictures I took at the survey it seems the underside of the swimstep is covered with fiberglass and there is no access. Thanks for any hints...

This pic shows the transom ...it is hollow with access from the bilge...it’s not great access as lots of stuff in the way...you will have to check it out if you are trying to put a backing plate

I feel like you were waiting for an excuse to post that pic of beautiful gelcoat shine and brand new virgin bottom paint.
