Boat light comments invited

I'd bet two jr bacon cheese burgers that ole @Arminius is a Sovereign Citizen. When he's boating he's not underway, he's traveling. There is a difference. USCG can't touch that guy :)
You had me cornfused there. Had to google a term I never heard of before. I guess I'm not woke.

My local CG just makes safety patrols looking for people in trouble. They never pull anyone over. But the County Mounties are another story. I know an officer personally and he delights in giving people trouble...

Look closely and you will see that is a mushroom anchor and windless. I think it may have a trolling motor attachment not currently installed.
Oh my good heck!! That's fantastic. Although my boat is a little heavier than a select 200, that mushroom anchor should hold fast. I'm going to look into it.

Rain gauge! That would be useful.

I'd also throw out the option of one of these guys. Keep the batteries topped off whilst the mushroom anchor is deployed.

I bet if he cut a hole in the bow stem, he could see the rain gauge without having to remove it.

Fantastic idea with the wind generator. If there were multiple wind generators, maybe there would be enough power to charge a large battery bank and he could potentially go with an all electric motor. Then while underway, it self charges. The battery bank could be placed in the bow, under the plywood.

As always, Club Sea Ray makes me proud to be a member. The ideas shared on this site are 2nd to none.

Ohh there are entire online communities dedicated to heckling these folks. If you look up the term on YouTube you can easily lose an entire evening with the content. Pure entertainment. Especially when the right police officers become involved...

The holding power of a mushroom anchor is second to none. I’m just curious if another mushroom anchor is mounted at the stern?

I keep thinking that at some time Arminius is going to want to sell this boat. With all these "modifications" I'm guessing it might be tough.

Another cornfusing comment...smile. You mean it's the best, or that its holding power is only better than none.

You got it! It’s the best worst anchor, especially for this application. I’m surprised he didn’t use a concrete block anchor formed in plywood.

Now don't laugh, but as a kid with a first boat, and only had enough money for old cans of 10W30 for the ole 10 HP Merc, instead of TW3 oil, My Grandpa gave me an anchor.

He worked for the New York Central Railroad and had access to old rusty parts. That ole railroad hook used to couple RR cars weighted a ton, but it sure held my little 16 footer whenever I anchored.

It got left in a cabinet when I moved, and never got it back, but I sure wish I had it back. I would rustproof it and hang it in my boathouse. My Grandpa was my mentor and he would have been proud to see it there.

There is an additional port nav light but I will have to think about the starboard. Pointed criticism is superior to none so keep the ideas coming. I did buy a Campion OB which was more suited to exploring the San Juans than the bowrider (with plywood wave protection). Unfortunately, we have outgrown beaching and diving on foreign shores and appreciate the comfort of the Searay based in a marina. I did get to try a 4-stroke OB but the power to weight ratio was disappointing along with the complexity.

At this point there's nothing you could do with your nav lights that would prevent the "confusion of other boaters" at night. The laws don't say you can't have a 10M candlepower white light on the front, they say you can't confuse other boaters.

Go all-in, scrap the nav lights and make more upgrades. You're this far in and it's still December, @Arminius . We have a lot more winter posting to get through before launch!

I never know when I am going to touch a nerve. Just previously I posted my replacement of a Bimini top project. There were issues but I got a good result and thought my dimensions might be helpful. No comments.
As the days got shorter, I found myself under the roof of the marina and wondered how I would find my slip if I got caught in the dark. I installed docking lights on a Seaswirl once and was always happy my torpedo tube hull incisions were clean and pointed in the right direction and elevation. It was tricky and I couldn't do this work again in the water. It was then that the bolt on floodlight occurred to me. I'll probably stick with the current plan as I am not excited about cutting the oval holes in the hull and it is likely that the bowrider's cushions would be in the way. My home overlooks Lake WA and boaters entertain us with very loud amplified seasonal music from craft with more lights than Santa's sled. For the Fourth of July, some boats look like rocket sleds from aloft, on my deck, streaking across the water. Maybe I am mistaken in my concept of the Lake being a potpourri of electronic noise and explosive lighting. Incidentally, "confusion" out of context is meaningless. I believe the violation requires intent as the word dates from when wreckers lured boats on to shoals with false lights in order to plunder the cargoes. My biggest lighting grievance would be moored sailboats which may have had an anchor light once. I'll try to bear in mind my original goal of finding my slip in a dark, enclosed marina.

I used to live in a house that had garages open onto a very narrow alleyway… two cars could just barely squeeze by if they were going in opposite directions. I began to despise everyone who drove a BMW because their LED lights were maddening at night. Not only could no one pass them because they couldn’t see the walls or the sides of the BMW, they couldn’t even pull over so Douchey McCockface could just pass by since he was the only one who could see. I was tempted so many times to fvck up my own car and just hammer it one day, just to scrape the whole side of his car off, but there were a lot of gas meters and possibly pedestrians in the way that I couldn’t see, so I never did.
Why not just buy a boat meant to do the things you want to do instead of endangering others?

My son had oem docking lights on his cruiser similar to the amazon ones above. They were horrible; not usable. It was obvious to me that the manufacturer was simply looking to unload a high priced option on customers that had no experience.

If that is the second option, what about all the holes drilled in the bow deck? Regardless, doesn't the current configuration discombobulate the anchor locker?

Women buy crap and watch TV, men build things.

I just hung the bracket on an existing lag. The winch is a success as I just push a button by my left knee to drop it and hang out without floating into shore. As to "not useable", why was that? On a prior boat, I had incandescent docking lights pointed in the right direction and I could use them as headlights, controlling elevation with trim. These LEDs hung on the present bow are really bright and I could not see my existing nav lights for the glare so I give credit to my critics. Still, I'd like to find the slip at night by myself or without relying upon Susan who will be tying her shoes or mutinying or something, that is, the handheld is out. These docking lights ought to do it.

That comment had no relevance to the post it was directed at. If the denigrating women comment and men that build crap are indicative of life in the city, then I fell sorry for the couple.

The whole use them as headlights thing is the major problem people have with this scenario. At the dock, okay maybe, while running on plane, hard no!
