So I'm new to the boat life but have a 16' 270 SDX and struggled the first time I had to load it. I had a buddy in the truck while I drove the boat up on the trailer. He had some experience with loading boats but his experience was with pontoon's. Excuse my lack of proper boat trailer terminology. So we got the boat in what we thought was the right position with the bow in tight to the front supports and cranked the winch strap down. He then pulled the boat out of the water andafter we stopped we noticed the bow had slid back away from the supports by 4-5". There was no moving it with the winch cable. So we backed it back in the water several times and I tried to power the boat up onto the trailer further. Looked fine in the water but again it seperated after pulling out. We finally had to get the truck moving and slam on the brakes to get the bow back up snuggly into the supports. Not 100% sure this trailer was built for this boat as I am a second owner. Dealership says they "setup" this trailer for my boat! What am i doing wrong? Trailer too far or not far enough in the water to load? Wrong trailer?

Pics of the trailer would help... bunks, rollers makes a difference.
Usually the problem is the angle of the ramp with respect to how much of the stern is floating when you pull it out.
Pics of the trailer will give everyone on here a better idea if you have a trailer problem or not

Like Blueone said - probably backing the trailer too far into the water. I usually back in to where the fenders of the trailer are just covered in water. Then, pull the boat onto the trailer, clip on the winch strap and winch the boat up until snug on the bow roller. You may have to winch it some again after you pull the truck/trailer forward a little (but not so much that you can't pull the boat with the winch).

Please don't do that next to any marina that has a restaurant over looking the launch area. If I saw that I would choke on my burger when laughing.

Please have someone take a look at the trailer. It might have something that needs to be adjusted that is being over looked.

I have done that once or twice..braked.... where the boat is an inch or two away from the winch on a bunk trailer. I don't see anything wrong with that.... but shouldn't be like that often
