I'm in the process of updating the audio and video on the boat. Essentially for the solon and cabins I'm adding a Blu Ray player, a new Satellite DVR receiver, and upgraded televisions. When going through the existing equipment there is the Bose LS48 head unit, a Bose SA-3 amplifier in the Starboard electronics cabinet, an Acoustimass amplifier/subwoofer under the Port couch, the 5 surround Bose jewel cube speakers that are wired to the Acustimass amplifier in the solon; then in the Master Stateroom another SA-3 amplifier, Acoustimass subwoofer and two jewel cube speakers that are wired to that SA-3 amplifier.
I can understand how the solon speakers are connected and function and also understand the Master Stateroom configuration. However I can't seem to figure out what that Bose SA-3 amplifier in the starboard electronics cabinet is for. It has a pair of speaker wires connected and they seem to route upward but I have no idea where they go or what they are for... The system has the LS48 Master remote control and two Bose Personal Music Center remotes of which one is for the Master Stateroom. The other Personal Music Center remote, I assume, is to operate that mystery SA-3 amplifier but no sound.... I think this is a common audio/video system for the larger boats in the 05 to 08 years.
Does anyone have an idea what that amplifier does?

Thanks
Tom

Look and see if you don’t have two Bose speakers mounted just above your sliding door on the back deck. You probably also have two lower speakers that work off your bridge radio system with wired remote Starboard side of exterior sliding door

If Bose speakers were there they have been replaced as a part of the helm and cockpit system update with a JL component system by the previous owners. It will be easy to check for the Bose wiring behind those speakers.
Thanks!

Just so you know I have high ones which are the Bose speakers then two low ones in the side walls that are connected to bridge radio system.
Yes, so do/did I. The high ones (as well as the lower ones) were replaced with JL M770 component speakers and then the previous owners had them integrated with the lower ones and bridge audio system. The Bose wires were disconnected. Verified that yesterday and then pulled that Bose amplifier and wiring to the speakers out of the boat. Thanks so much for the help!

I didn’t know the cockpit speakers where originally part of the interior Bose system both my 36 DB and this boat the cockpit speakers are and where part of the bridge system.
I don’t have the extra Bose amp or wiring to indicate it was retrofitted.

Maybe the Bose extension to the cockpit outside was an option in 2006. Do you have speakers above the sliding door?
Also, that Bose amplifier that powered them (if you would have one) is behind the entertainment equipment cabinet; you need to remove the doors, un-screw and pull that entire rack out that holds the audio/video equipment.

We have speakers above the door as I said they’re part of the bridge system along with 2 other cockpit speakers and a Sub.
I’ve been inside the entertainment cabinet more than I care to remember and have never seen an additional amp.
Right now it’s ok to have 2 seperate systems we can have music on the bridge /cockpit and seperate (dinner) music inside if needed

The Bose extension to the cockpit indeed was an option in 2006. Joe, Vinny's boat has (or at least had) the Bose cockpit setup with the third remote.

I would love to upgrade the salon head unit in our 2005 500 DB and I have the same Bose 48 Lifestyle setup. Do you know if there is a more modern head unit that will work with the Bose cube speakers? I am getting an 801 error with mine, so I am thinking that it has seen better days. Please let me know what you guys have done to upgrade.

Thanks!

I have an ‘06 52 sedan bridge with 2 speakers mounted on the bow above the windshield facing the bow pad. Where is the controller for these speakers?

Different boat, but on ours the bow speakers are controlled from the bridge. Somehow. I've found a disconnected connector near where our optional TV system would have been mounted, and also near another similar but connected radio speaker connector. I disconnected one, connected the other, Voila, sound on the bow. Useless, for us, but at least that's what I've found so far.

I've not yet found how to energize the stereo speakers on our bridge, though. Only the bow (temporarily) and the cockpit.

I think someone added those speakers. They are probably operated by the bridge stereo system. Not knowing what stereo head unit you have but if the original Clarion you might look in the "glove box" below the head unit and see if they installed a switch to operate those speakers.
I doubt they were a part of the Bose Lifestyle system in the solon.

Thanks Chris. Sure would like to use these suckers but man it’s a pain sorting them out.

I don’t think they’re part of the Bose system as it only has 2 remotes, one for the salon Bose speakers and one for the cockpit Bose speakers. The clarion head is original. I’ll look around in the glove box for a switch. Thanks for the suggestion.
