Newb here, just picked up a 2005 200 sundeck yesterday (yay!) that has bottom paint. The original owner did the bottom paint and had it in salt water for 5 years. The next owner (who I bought from) only used it in fresh water for 10 years and never re-applied more paint. The paint is chalky and rubs off when you run your hand across it but appears to have been well applied since there is no flaking/cracking.
I'll be using the boat in salt water but just day use type stuff, It won't be in a slip or anything. Will likely use boat approx. 20x a year.
Any recommendation as to what type of paint I should use? I would prefer a 1 coat process not requiring primer first (if such a product exists). Also I'm limited to a product that West Marine carries as I'm planning on buying it today and doing it tonight.
Thanks!!

If your trailering...leave it alone. A few days in water without anything is ok. So, if it looks fine and it’s not moored in a slip...send-it

If it's rubbing off in your hand, it cold be ablative paint which is designed to shed. I wouldn't be in a rush to repaint. Run with it for a while or try a power washer to see how much comes off. The key to a good paint job will be the prep work -- don't rush.

Thanks all. Admittedly its more of an aesthetics issue than a protective one. The keel looks like crud from him beaching it and the bumpers on the trailer have worn some of it off as well. Figured now would be the time to throw a coat on before I put it in salt water. I'll post up some pix if I end up doing it..

Sounds like ablative, so stick with that. More copper equals more money so go with less copper and save$$$

Pick their cpp paint. Power wash and scrub lightly with maroon scotch brite pad. Let it dry thoroughly and paint.
