Roughly how many miles can you cover with a sundancer in one day? I would stick in the ICW, so I know this will be highly dependent on wake zones, and various obstacles. I’m just trying to get a rough idea for planning purposes. I’m looking at purchasing a boat from Florida and bringing it back to NC, and I’m trying to determine if I should just put it on a truck/hire a captain.

Plan 8-9 days at a pace you enjoy the trip. When you get closer to a deal, PM me, I can give you good details about the trip.

what size dancer? crossing Okeechobee will take a full day if you plan it right - depending on the boat and crew, you could do 100 - 150 miles the next leg - the icw is far easier to run north of Stuart....its wider so bridges are higher and there are fewer no wake zones - again, depending on the boat and weather, most "skip georgia" and go offshore from N. fla to SC

In the late '90's we brought a 370 dancer from Coral Gables, FL to Wilmington, NC.
We ran daylight to dark, in the ICW the entire way and made it in 4 days. That's one of the things I'd love to have back, I would stretch it to at least 6 days and lower the stress levels and see some things along the way. Live and learn

The OP hasn’t said what size Sundancer he is thinking of purchasing, nor the time of year. Can this be done in a 4xx series any time of year and conditions? Sure. With a 2xx series? Only if you’re a masochist.

With that boat it is definitely doable. In fact we seriously considered a slightly longer similar route in reverse (Boston to Fort Meyers) after we inherited a house there. That plan involved our current boat, also a 38 with similar living space. That plan got scrapped not because of the boat, but because we decided against having a third household.

Make sure you bring all the tools and spare parts. Anything that can go wrong...

I got a quote for shipping which has me leaning more towards that route.

Add recommissioning (props, electronics) and unloading at your destination. You may also want to shrink wrap the windshield back for transport.

Do you know what the typical cost of that is?

It's a trip you don't want miss. If you can find the time, drive it home.

Sail her home....trip of a lifetime and one for the bucket list. Hire a captain to come along if you feel more comfortable.

Without pulling receipts I’d guess $1000-$1500.
