New to any hull work. Last year at the end of the season the heater did not work. Upon inspection when out of the water I noticed that the bronze water intake fins were broken so I bought a new one. The new one has four screw holes in it. I assume the old one does to. Can anyone go through the removal steps for me? Thanks. Painkiller

PS - I bought a thru hull fitting intake scoop but wonder if the fitting should just be a plate?

On the floor of the bilge you will likely have a shut off that will need to have the hose removed. Then you thread the body with the valve off with a pipe wrench or possibly channel lock ( probably have to have the valve in open position to get it to turn and not hit stringer). This is difficult on the 420 you have because the area is tight. After the shut off valve is removed you can then take the large nut loose that pinches the thru hull scupper to the floor of the boat. It is now time to get under boat to remove the 4 screws, you already mentioned the holes...This will likely be the task that could require a pro. Be sure to have the the right size bit before you start ( or find an impact driver to help)....These 4 screws will be glued, screwed, nailed, epoxyed, stapled, siliconed and welded.....You get the picture.....Once you get them out hit the fitting from inside the boat with a hammer to remove. Clean the area up. Go back together with 4200 or similar sealant. Hope this helps

Thanks ASH. I appreciate the description and detail. I will be on it as soon as I get access to the storage area...

I did not mention the shut off valve inside the boat will likely be secured to the floor with 3 screws....I was thinking if you are willing to do the job yourself you are likely mechanically inclined and will figure it out as you go....One other thing would be to make a mental note of how the handle of the shut off is pointed before you start. If you get the job done and the handle will not close because it hits the stringer you may be upset!!! Good luck with the job....
