I'm assuming a fuel filter but when I Google the part number nothing comes up? Mabey that number in the picture is not the P/N?

Yep, looks like a fuel filter (assuming that's the fuel line). That's probably not the part number you see there... it might be under the bracket.

If you look to the left of the black ring you can see the last digit "2" of the part number.

Just replaced 2 on my 340.
Auto Zone had in stock.
Thinking of replacing with spin on water/fuel seperators.
Any pros/cons?

Nope. There is a water/fuel sep for the genny, but the only others are the mentioned above!

It’s possible someone removed your fuel / water separating filter, but it had one when Mercury manufactured it.

This photo shows its location. You can not see it from above. If you are running v-drives, you would need to use your hands to feel it, or I guess you could do a head stand.

Either way, the two filters, a fuel filter and a water separating fuel filter perform different tasks. One does not replace the other. Please do not read “water separating fuel filter” as “water separating filter” AND “fuel filter.” Motor damaging particulate can pass through a water separating fuel filter but not a fuel filter. Motor damaging water can pass through a fuel filter but not a water separating fuel filter.

You need both.

The water separating fuel filter only stops particulates down to 25 microns vs 10 microns for the fuel filter. The fuel filter does not stop water.

I stand corrected (in my orthopedic shoes!)
Upon further investigation, I found the water/fuel separators, way down on the strbd side of each engine, mounted below the electric fuel pump assembly! Funny thing is, I now remember replacing these a couple of years ago. Old age is hell....

Btw, if anyone needs any pointers on changing ZF 63 IV ATF fluid, I can help. Just did both of mine. Pretty simple.
