We are planning a trip up to Grand Bend in August…. We have a lot of Canadian friends that come down to the islands that we haven’t seen in 2 years. Hopefully this is the year we get to some level of normalcy

Canadian border crossing rules change today

Apr. 1—PLATTSBURGH — The first ever Reunion Day is underway in the North Country.

With Canada's pre-entry testing requirement for fully vaccinated individuals crossing the land border officially being dropped today, casual travel between Canada and the United States is expected to become much easier.

This will essentially "reunite" the citizens from both countries who were separated the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But despite Canada's testing requirement change, other requirements still remain in place for Americans and Canadians looking to cross the border.

Being fully vaccinated is one of those requirements, North Country Chamber of Commerce President Garry Douglas said at a Chamber event Wednesday.

"From my understanding, fully vaccinated means they require the first two shots... but the booster is an addition, it's not a requirement," Douglas told the Press-Republican.

"Testing requirements are gone for the vaccinated. Also, quarantine requirements are still in effect for the unvaccinated."

At the event, Clinton County Legislator Rick Potiker (R-Area 5, Schuyler Falls) called on both the United States and Canada to drop the vaccination requirement.

"On behalf of the Clinton County Legislature, I applaud this step toward a full reopening of the Canadian border, this is important and we need to see the cross border traffic," Potiker said.

"I would like to join Elise Stefanik in calling on the United States and Canada to drop all remaining travel requirements for northern border travelers and to drop the vaccine mandates that continue to impede cross border travel. The time has come to bring our communities back together."

ARRIVECAN APP

Canada has also implemented the use of the ArriveCan App to make travel easier.

Proof of vaccination and other essential information can be uploaded by any person wanting to enter the country, Douglas said.

"Canada has implemented a new pre-recording process (ArriveCan) that is not strictly pandemic related and is going to remain in place. All indications are it is here permanently, and we'll just have to get used to it," he said during the event.

"Within 72 hours of when you plan to go to Canada, you need to go on that app, and say 'ok, I'm planning to cross the border at Lacolle on Tuesday at approximately 10 a.m.,' and you just x some boxes, it's very simple, answer some other questions they ask you, you do that and then you're set to go, and they have that when you arrive at the border."

When I first saw the date, my assumption was that it's another April Fool's joke, but it sure looks legit. That's so good to hear!

No it’s real…. But it’s Canada…. Just don’t take a truck across unless you want your assets frozen.
If it wasn’t for friends and family I wouldn’t go near the place.

I down loaded the app…. Typical government app…. Not something you will complete during lunch

My sister in Atlanta just retired after 48 years with the same company. The boss threw a party for her at his mansion. Invitations were sent, I got one but I wasn't able to attend because right on the invitation they required all attendees be fully vaccinated & boosted. I ain't boosted, so I couldn't go.

I don't think they wanted me there anyway. Last one of their parties I was filling up on the free drinks and a couple big shots from the 'boys club'(that's what my sister called it) asked me what school I went to, so I told them I graduated from XYZ High, in the top 95% of my class.:D

Curious with vaccination. Couldn’t find anywhere which stated how long that is valid. Meaning if you were vaccinated a year ago would they still accept with no booster?

Good question…. I am about to fill in all the stuff. Double vaccinated in may and no booster. If more needles required I am out

Not so fast! The morons in Ottawa have come up with a little caveat to those entering the country…..to have your backs, to keep you safe, from day one (stupid catch phrases the Trudeau govt have used throughout the pandemic).
All returning people don’t need proof of testing but need to wear masks in public for 14 days past entry and keep a log of all contacts and locations.
It’s enough to even make a Canadian angry.

Let’s not follow science next time…. Science makes no sense

They follow the “science” until it interferes with their agenda.
Why would there agenda include shunning away American tourist dollars?

It’s all about control….he has cobbled an agreement with a socialist left wing party that got 17% of the vote in the last election so sockboy can stay “in power” for another 3 years…..Canada is a mess and on the road to becoming another Greece/Italy (finance wise).

“Why would there agenda include shunning away American tourist dollars?”

If our Canadian government had any common sense?
That was gone long ago……..I mentioned Greece/Italy before as a reference to the debt level this government is carrying. This latest “idea” will be the end of the recreational boating industry in Canada. Remember Trudeau wants to make the rich pay.

Maybe Trudeau should read that article…. But I don’t think he has any common sense at this point
