With 800 hrs on my 1999 built date cats its time to start thinking through the process. Over the summer I came across a CAT Aftercooler service bulliton but have not been able to find it again. Does anyone know where to find it?
Can anyone here share their experiences in servicing the aftercoolers?
Many thanks for any help.

Easy R&R, they’re just heavy. The port side is harder in our 410 because you have less leverage to lift it off, not sure how your bilge is though

There are 22 bolts (I think) that hold it to the head. Remove all of those, loosen the hose clamps (two for cooling water and the turbo boost hose) and it comes right off. Replace all the hoses and clamps while you’re at it, much easier with the AC off

you’ll need a new gasket for it on reinstall as well. Our local Milton recommended a radiator shop that they use for pressure testing and cleaning.

You are 12-13 years into Caterpillar ownership now. The 1000 hour service should include replacing all the hoses and hose clamps buried unbderneath but not necessarily connected to the after-coolers, it is just a whole lot earier to get to the the other hoses with the after-cooler off the engines. Additionally, Caterpillar has replaced some of the rubber hoses with silicone rubber hoses which offer much better resistance to heat degredation and a much improved service life. I would not use aftermarket or generic parts house hoses and hose clamps for the after-cooler service. I'd suggest you go to your Cat dealer for hoses, hose clamps and belts.

Hi Mark
wouldn't the blades turn in the right direction once rotated over a few times?

That's exactly what I thought too... My buddy asked the direction and I didn't know, but it looks like it's clockwise to me.
