Cat C7's
All - I have just acquired a 400DB with 2005 Cat C7's. I would like to get a fresh oil change and am looking for advise on what oil/weight to replace with. I called CAT and gave them my serial number (C7X00516) and they recommended 15/40. I read somewhere that perhaps i should use straight 40? The boat will be used in Chicago on Lake Michigan. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Follow Cat's recommendation for the C-7.

The only non-DEO straight grade oil Cat has recommended is to use SAEO or a single grade SAE 30 0r SAE 40 in only 3112 and 3126 engines.

Looks good here...?

Carter is nit picking... LOL

Like I told someone earlier this week.........when I make a mistake it is usually because my mind works faster than my ability to type.

And, just for you Carter, I meant to type 3116, not 3112..........but that brings about an interesting question: What would a 3112 look like? A 2 cylinder engine 1/3 the length of a 3116 but with the same stroke.....probably shake a boat to pieces.

Frank thank you for the clarification. I am sure many people have said it before, but you are a major asset to this forum. Thank you for lending your expertise and wisdom to a whole group of people!
