chart plotter charts

I don't think it's necessary in the Great Lakes to update every year - or even every two or three. For instance, I spent the long dollar last year on the full blown platinum chart for my e120 and I was shocked to see that it still has the old configuration for our marina (public facility). Our Marina was completely redesigned 8-10 years ago and protrudes much further into the harbor than our old one. That's not much of an update!

A second entrance to New Buffalo harbor was filled in near 15 years ago and the most recent charts do not have he wall noted. The auto guidance will route the vessel right into the wall. The wall is not noted on any chart or plotter I have checked.

On Lake Michigan we can get by with updates every 5 years or so, as so little changes.

For many of my friends that means they update when the get a new boat. LOL

We update for long trip voyages. Every year we do some sort of extended vacation but some are longer periods of time in unknown waters. We update every time for those ones.

I know this is an old thread but I’d like to bump it to see what card everyone’s using for Lake Michigan. I have Raymarine Axiom XL plotters and need charts for my trip up the river next spring from port charles Missouri.

I think mine update whenever I connect my iPad to the Garmin network. So continual.

I have Furuno which include free charts for life so yep I update them.
