I feel stupid asking this but how do you check the oil level in V-Drive transmissions?
They are Hurth transmissions. Engines running? Engines off? etc.. Obviously I see the dip sticks. Automatic transmissions in cars require the engine to be running at idle to check. Same true for Hurth?

Depends on which hurth you have and year. First run engine to temp. Then shut down. Check as soon as shut down. If AFT and the dipstick is a plug then push in then check. If screw type, pull out but don't screw back it, just set it in. Both versions the fluid should be between the lines or at least not over.

If trany takes 30W. Run to temp. Shut down pull stick, then put back in. Should be between Iines but not over the line.

Great. Understand process now. I see the transmissions use ATF fluid. I wish to change the oil whilst the engines are out for rebuilds. How many quarts. LG111 was kind enough to paste a picture but unfortunately font to small for my old eyes.
