Someone said this already - pull in your slip bow first - Then you can drop it on the dock and clean it and the locker. Add your length markers at the same time. This was how I painted markers on my chain rode.

Ditto. Bow in. Take full rode out on the dock. Inspect all shackles, slice, wear on rope, new length markers. When I did mine after purchasing our boat it had 4" of mud in the bottom!
