I am looking for a replacement lens for the cockpit lights in my '97 240 Sundancer. There are three or four of the lights mounted on the inside of the transom, the helm seat and one or two other places in the cockpit (I can't remember and the boat is in storage until April). One of the lens is broken and I am looking for a replacement but can't find it in the online parts manual. I called a dealer and he couldn't find it either - it sounded like he was looking at the same parts manual I was looking at.

Does anyone have a part number for the lens and/or a source if it is no longer available from Sea Ray? Thank you!

I don't recall there being that many lights installed by Sea Ray. There would be one, maybe two lights installed in the entire cockpit area. If you have that many, it's a likely bet that a previous owner installed them. As such, it would be hard for us to guess what is there. However, look on page 3 of your parts manual in the "not shown" section. There is a light listed there, but that part number is no longer active - likely because the part hasn't been used by Sea Ray in quite some time. It may or may not still be available through the aftermarket. More than likely, though, you'll be replacing the entire assembly (not that hard) as most of those (plastic, right?) lights don't have separate parts. IF, however, the lights being used are the Perko ones with a stainless bezel, then I do believe that the lens is available by itself.

If the previous owner installed those lights somewhat recently then they may still be available which means it would be easier to find matching replacements. And, there's still a possibility that the previous owner installed matching lights to the original and, while Sea Ray no longer uses that style, they may still be available, too.

Check manufacturers such as Perko, Attwood, etc and see if anything looks familiar. If not, take a ride to the boat (install a zipper door in the shrink wrap if necessary) and take a look, or just wait till Spring.

My post was a little unclear - there are three or maybe four lights total - probably three. One on the inside of the transom (between the stern seat and the floor, one on the aisle side of the helm seat that is a back to back double wide seat and maybe one in the helm area where your legs would be when you're at the helm. I'm pretty sure they're factory installed lights.

The 840850 part no. from the parts manual has a description of "oval" and the ones in my boat are round. I can't remember if they have a stainless base but they look similar to this one: http://www.salvinco.com/12-Volt-Courtesy-Light-Bun-Surface-mount-courtesy-light-5-watt_p_79.html

The boat is inside a pole barn so I'll just wait until spring and see if there is any part no. or manufacturer ID on the existing lights.

The light you show in the pic does not look factory. I agree with Lazy Daze, the factory lights are typically perko or attwood.

Since that looks like a surface mount light, I would think you could replace with anything similar.

Bahama is right that Sea Ray has typically used something more robust. However, now that I see that picture (your link in Post 4) it does ring a bell of something I've seen used in the past (although really only on some of the entry Dancers), although I don't think they were used for very long. For example, my '99 260DA used the stainless, flush mount lights. One of the reasons is probably because they kept breaking from being kicked. It also helps to know that we're not dealing with nearly a dozen lights plastered around the cockpit like an airfield :smt001

The one you pictured reminds of something that might be available through an RV store - that might be a good avenue to pursue. But this may be a good opportunity to upgrade to something more robust, flush mount and maybe even LED for power savings when you're on the hook. Perko and Attwood are obvious choices to look into - a couple others are TH Marine and Sea Dog.

I may upgrade to the lights like those that you described - I'd just change out all of them so they match.

You're right on how the one on the side of the helm seat gets broken. It sticks out just enough to get tagged when people move about.

It's a pretty easy change-out, as well. The only kinda-hard thing is that you may have to enlarge the hole in the fiberglass - but that's pretty easy, too. As you look at possible replacements, be sure you are getting cockpit lights and not something like "all around" or "general purpose" or "transom" or "overhead" lights. The difference is that cockpit lights should shine primarily DOWN onto the floor, whereas the other styles will shine everywhere and can be annoying. They often LOOK a lot alike as the only difference may be the lens design. Other designs are obvious as they have a physical shield.

Thanks for all of the information! Once the boat is home for the season (19 weeks and counting!) I'll evaluate the options.
