I have seen a couple stories come across here on colon cancer and I see these commercials on TV and internet …. I have a friend and neighbor that’s an Gastroenterology specialist… the box test is too late. …it just tells you you have cancer…most times it’s too late…. You need to have a proper colonoscopy at 50 or earlier if it’s in you family history….. get a colonoscopy when your doctor says you should….. don’t do the box test as your test

I believe the new guidelines are now recommending to have your first colonoscopy at age 45 as too many people are being diagnosed late at age 50. I think this came out at the beginning of this year, or end of last.

With a history of colon CA in the family, recommendations are to get tested @ 35. Suggest you follow YOUR Doctors recommendations as he/she is YOUR Doctor and knows your specific requirements.

My mother had colon cancer which was caught early and treated and now she's fine. My wife's first husband caught his extremely late and passed at 47 after a brief brave fight. Tragic considering it may have been avoidable.

I'm 61 and tomorrow I go in for my 6th colonoscopy because of issues found early and completely treatable. I'm now on a 2 year review cycle and never miss it.

Anyone who's watched this unfold would have no hesitation to get checked early, and often if necessary.

I’m a cancer survivor from rectal cancer. It also was caught early via a colonoscopy. It’s been 4 years clean now. Just had a colonoscopy and was told to come back in 3 years.

My Dr. started me on the colonoscopy regimen at 45 due to family history. I have had 3 and so far clean. They are not fun, but I would say is cancer is less fun.

Ontario started doing those fecal tests for people that have no risk factors (i.e. past history, colon or rectal cancer in a direct relative) as an alternative to colonoscopy. I understand that all it tests for is micro amounts of blood in the stool, which if detected, might result in a colonoscopy. I have colon cancer history with my maternal grandmother and my father had polyps and was considered higher risk. I have had a couple of colonoscopies, and each was “clean” so the Doc says 10 year till the next (I guess 7 now). Heath Ontario sent me a fecal kit last year, which I did and it came back clean as well.
