Compression Numbers for 454s

Not to high jack the thread but I also recently had a compression test done on 97 330DA w/approx. 700hrs I am looking to purchase w/twin 454. The compression numbers are as follows:

P - 160, 160, 150, 160, 130, 155, 155, 160
S - 155, 150, 145, 135, 150, 150, 150, 150

The compression test was done cold, and the mechanic recommended a leak down test in #3 on the port side, but he didn't say anything more than that on the report and I have't been able to speak with him.

Does anyone have any insight into why a leak down test would be needed on that cylinder only? Additionally, does the variance in the numbers across all cylinders concern anyone?

Thanks

I'd probably run it for a season or two and see where things ended up after some good use. It's not severely low.

I think the difference here is he is looking to buy the boat.

I was in a similar situation. When I was in the process of buying mine, Port came back fine, 135/140 across the board. Same with starboard, accept 2 were at 105. Starboard was very difficult to start but once she warmed up it ran fine. As part of the sale, they redid the heads. Been 2 years, Starboard starts the same as port, no issues since.

@ejlivas
If I owned it, I would have the approach that @douglee25 suggested, but as the buyer I had the approach it should be mechanically right
